BAS rear harnesses
Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?
I know it's not common to have rear harnesses, however my bird is setup for them due to a past life in missionary work. That said, the belt were mismatched and not in great shape so ordered new ones from BAS.
One thing that's throwing me off is the direction of the buckles. On the old belts, the loose ends came down out the shoulder harness buckles, whereas on the new ones the loose ends go up so they flop forward over the buckle and seem untidy. Is this normal? I asked BAS and didn't get a super clear answer. The picture probably should have been panned out a bit, but the long loose ends of the shoulder belts go down on the original set on the left, but up on the new ones on the right.

The new ones def look wrong. I’d send em back.
Keep in mind that BAS does not make belts… there really are no such thing as BAS harnesses. BAS sells Amsafe belts and owns the STC for the inertia reel for the front only.
The rear ones are just TSO’d. they arent normally stocked, and are made to order based on AmSafes explicit drawings.
Like you said, a wider shot would be more helpful, but it appears something is backwards.
Id start by getting Crystal to eMail you the AmSafe drawing your harness was based on and see if something is wrong.
I assume they ordered the wrong drawing from AmSafe.

I was looking at new belts for my project when I learned about pull up or pull down adjustment. I think all shoulder harness should be pull down. Seatbelt depends on the plane. Pull up is good in tight spaces otherwise pull down is more natural. I would send them back if they are not right.

That's an interesting attach to the buckle on that set-up on the right--
buttons, like cessna's single-point shoulder strap,
vs a rotary buckle, or slotted fittings that the buckle tongue goes through.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!
Thanks guys, I emailed BAS back with some more follow up to see if they have another drawing with the loose ends down.
