My wife and I have a few days off next week and plan to take the DHC-2, on straight floats, for an adventure north. We've been keeping the airplane at Renton, south end of Lake Washington this summer and adventuring from there.

We had originally planned to take the mountain bikes to the south chilcotin mountains provincial park area to ride, but I'm hearing that the park is partially or completely closed due to fires, although I haven't determined if Lorna Lake, is in the closed area? Regardless, it is close to the tfr and probably not a great option right now.

So, we are pivoting, maybe a stop at chatterbox falls, camp at lake lovely water? Any other places we should consider for good camping out of the float plane, fishing and paddling?

South Chilcotin mountains have extensive forest fire activity at the moment in fairly near proximity to Lorna Lake. While Lorna may not be closed and there would be no immediate danger, there's a high likelihood of getting smoked in and stuck there for an indeterminate amount of time.

You're in luck though, there's still lots of places to check out. Do you want the full wilderness experience or a camp site with a dock to pull up to?

Chatterbox Falls/Princess Louisa is beautiful and definitely stop in. It will be busy with yachts though and I'm not sure about camping. If you can't camp at Chatterbox, you could camp nearby at the head of Jervis. Bring bear spray.

Lake Lovely Water is beautiful and you could certainly camp there. There is even an alpine hut on the lake that you can possibly stay in but you will likely have company this time of year. Camping on the beach should be no problem though

You could fly into Emma Lake on the Sunshine Coast (above Goat Lake) and have instant access to the alpine trail network that starts from the Emma Lake Cabin.

Phantom Lake would be another wilderness camping option.

You could go up Bute Inlet and follow Tatlayoko Lake and then head to Nimpo Lake for some excellent fishing and camping at Stewarts. You could call Stewarts and see about setting something up for one of their wilderness lakes for a more secluded trip. You could also ask them about hitting the Turner Lake canoe chain that they run for BC Parks

A little further North would be one of my favourites, Eutsuk Lake, Pondosy Bay Resort. Rent a wilderness cabin and enjoy spectacular fishing. Eutsuk Lake is like 80km long and there's no road access to it.

Fraser Farmer is the expert here, no doubt, but I just got back from Atlin and, well, just sayin

Atlin is beautiful, highly recommend it if you're going that far.

Great options you guys, really appreciate it. We are looking for more of the "wilderness experience", so remote/beaching is great.

I'm going to do some research on there locales mentioned and get back with more questions!
