BCP3 going live... Going down at 10:00am PDT

Update July 8th: Going down at 10:00am PDT.
-----------------------

Update July 3rd: I'm avoiding this like ripping a band-aid off a hairy part of the body, so it'll likely come without much warning. If the maintenance page comes up, you'll know we're going for it. See you on the other side!

-----------------------
I want to take it live next week before the fly-in. This requires probably 24 hrs downtime. Not very professional, I know, but I'll try to minimize it.

My question is: can we afford the downtime prior to the fly-in? Or do people need the forum for information and planning badly enough that we should delay until afterward? I should we just throw caution to the wind and let it ride?

I urge everyone to save any important PM's to their local machine, like contact info, etc. We're going to have an new PM system, but you will retain read access to the old PM box for a few months.

Your photos from the old gallery have been copied over and will be available in your profile.

It's gonna be bloody for a while, with many bugs to address. Gonna be fun!

Re: BCP3 going live... there will be downtime

The other question is: Do you want to make a big system change right before you're going to be mostly/completely out of contact for a few days? Or are you not going?

You guys are gonna love it.........

Without giving away too much....

The new layout is awesome, VERY interactive, and very cool. BCP 3.0 will be a useful tool for everyone here. You will be able to easily navigate the forum, or dig deep into articles, videos, and pictures. I personally love it. Zane has done a great job.

Re: BCP3 going live... there will be downtime

That's a hard one. I say do it but do it early in the week so that it minimizes the down time closer to the fly-in...and maybe give a few days for any major bugs to be recognized and fixed. After all, you know people will be uploading pics at JC and the last thing you want to be doing is spending your time being IT! Plus, if those kinks are found and fixed, it will keep the poor saps that can come from going without pics and updates!

Can't wait!

I will be impatiently awaiting for the evening updates from the picnic table at JC during the fly-in since I can't go this year.

I agree with with Cory. Go now, or wait until we get home from JC. But that's "like my opinion----man."
I know nothing about computers, so what ever problems you may anticipate vs. the problems I can only imagine may be minimal.
Your the man Z. What ever you think, I'm your biggest fan.
Looking forward to it!

Tom Weiss perished in a mid-air collision October 12, 2014. He was an enthusiastic and beloved contributor here for close to 10 years, and he will be missed greatly.

Re: BCP3 going live... there will be downtime

Another thought: considering how this site is such an important networking tool when someone gets into trouble, I'd hate to not have it available to notify the calvary if needed. But it sounds like the down time will be minimal.

Really looking forward to seeing the new site!

The new site is awesome Z! Knock it out. Doesn't seem as though there are many bugs now. The gang here is going to be blown away!!!

Re: BCP3 going live... there will be downtime

Ok I'll wait. It's stressful enough getting ready for JC with the shirts and squaring away my day job work without having to worry about the site being down. I will be at JC and therefore away from the tools that would let me fix it.

So the week after, when we normally argue about some occurrence that happened in Idaho, we'll break in the new site!

Re: BCP3 going live... there will be downtime

I think that's the right choice - but have to say that people will be more annoyed with the 24hr downtime than the bugs and dead links that currently exist. It'd be nice to be able to upload pics again - sooner rather than later.

Re: BCP3 going live... there will be downtime

I think it is a good decision to wait Z. No matter how long I have had new systems in beta there always seems to be some sort of "glitch" that shows up on final. Plus I think it will add to the post JC excitement and allow you to enjoy JC without worrying. Thanks for all your hard work and dedication.
