Bearhawk Patrol progress

Spent my weekend scrubbing aluminum, Alodining and priming ribs. One of these days I'll have something flyable..... =D> [-o<

Nice. Sent you a friend request. I just got back from the hangar, day 2 of MEK scrubbing and such on my left wing. Next up is getting some anti-chafe strips down and then putting on some polybrush so I can lay out some fabric.

I still have my Bearhawk plans and stuff, not sure if I'll ever build it, would like to though.

Thanks Tadpole. I changed the link to make it publicly viewable. I remember you from "Papa Kieth's" website, though I think he threw in the towel since there haven't been any updates. #-o I was going to build the 4-seater, but most guys aren't using the back seats much and I like the elbow room ! I did start scratchbuilding a while back and had all of the nose ribs formed. Then I ordered the Rib and spar" kit to get things moving and after talking to Bob Barrows at SnF 2010. The Stinson looks great. I've always liked their classic looks. Gonna be sweet when it's done !

Re: Bearhawk Patrol progress

That looks great!! I have always been interested in the bearhawk. How are they to get into compared to a champ? I am 6'3" and would love to build an experimental supercub, but hate the size of them and the fact that they stink to get in and out of.

Why did you go with the patrol instead of a SC type?

Cool stuff!!!

Re: Bearhawk Patrol progress

Thanks Lance. The designer, Bob Barrows is over 6', and I know guys up to 6'6" have been fine in it. The door swings open, and the window swings up, so it's not like the clamshell door that Cubs have. The front seat is on tracks and slides down as it slides back giving more head room at the same time as leg room. Also, the wing is all metal, with flush rivets and one strut per side from the fuselage to the wing. I think this is not only a cleaner look but contributes to it's higher cruise speed. It stalls at 35, cruises at 140 with 180 hp. Gross is around 2100lbs. The shocks/suspension system is exactly that, a shock system (no bungees). When it lands it tends to stick a little better and not bounce. Climb rate (light) is @ 2000fpm. I could go on and on. I looked into cub kits but for cost/performance I think the BH is a way better deal. My opinion, your mileage will obviously vary. Everyone should do their own research and come up with their own opinion. This is mine. :D

Re: Bearhawk Patrol progress

Thanks for the reply--That is kind of what I thought. I would like to build one someday, and have a set of amphips and retract skis to use on it. Seems like the perfect setup, for someone who doesn't fit in a supercub.

Maybe when I get sick of the RV-8 I can start on one of those :D
