Bent the landing gear- MUST CLOSE AIRPORT!

This kind of thinking just amazes me. Us GA pilots really need to work to educate the public about the good things about aviation.

Interstate 15 goes right through West Jordan, and I think they've had one or two accidents on that too, including some fatalities. So probably should close that down too...

I'll bet the airport was there before the soccer field and most of the houses they are worried about??

Re: Bent the landing gear- MUST CLOSE AIRPORT!

The funny part is that West Jordan City doesn't even own the land or operate the airport they are considering closing. The Airport is owned and operated by the Salt Lake department of Airports and has received Federal funds for improvements even in 2010.

They are upset that the 360 acres doesn't generate revenue and therefore must go. While I have read about airport closures in AOPA Pilot and understand that it doesn't pay to take these threats lightly...they are truly pissing up a rope.

Get the city fathers a copy of 16 Right and make them watch it. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly the city's want to close a airport for some trivial reason. If the city accepted funds for the airport they must keep it open until a certain date. We are having are own problems with that here in Boulder City with airport "manager" closing runways because of "construction" issues.

Incredible stuff!! But, I'm not surprised. If the city is so concerned about the soccer field, look into modifying the approach and departure routes to avoid over flying the soccer field (if it is safe and logical to do so). This has been done at many airports across this country. That part seems like a no brainer to me.

Ya, bet there is more illegal activity going on at that soccer field than at the airport. Oh wait that's Utah, Sorry #-o
At least more injuries.

Oh man, we can get the ball rollin on this one, Russ   Yeah, how many sprained ankles, bloody noses (from being hit in the head by a soccer ball), bumps and bruises were caused while playing soccer on that field?? How many drug deals go on at night there?? How many fights have taken place there??

Statistically, I'm going to bet that the airport is way safer place to be!! I'm just saying...........OK, done ranting
