Best route from ID to TX
Get together with other pilots or enthusiasts. Plan it or get info about it here.
My uncle and I will be bringing my plane home around the tenth of August. Weather permitting, we'll try to get it done in one day with one, maybe two stops.
Recommendations on routes would be appreciated, as would regional advice regarding turbulence.
Flying a T206H.
Thanks

If you want to avoid the high terrain in Colorado, I would suggest flying to Laramie. Then going direct once you're on the east side of the front range.

Just head south east. Its a big target, you should hit it.

Keep the Greasy side down!
Guess I'm underestimating the turbo.
All my time is in NA aircraft.

Can't imagine why you wouldn't want to overnight in some place like Taos New Mexico. Neat little town with some fantastic New Mexican cuisine. Courtesy car at the airport, pilot discounts at a couple of the hotels.

Yes, Taos is a great town! Been there many times, never in a plane however.
Unfortunately family commitments and the opening of antelope season on the 15th in ID are dictating our schedule.

I've made this run several times. Bottomline: Wx is going to probably dictate what routing you end up taking. That and what part of Texas.
There are three common routes that I typically consider. 1) Cross the rockies in Wyoming. 2) Direct if WX, Temps, Airplane can safely do it. 3) Southern route through Southern CO or Northern AZ/NM.
If your timing is really bad and a large front is crossing the rockies, you may have to consider going as far north as MT/WY or central AZ to safely get through.
Thunderstorms are my first concern. Then I look at winds and turbulence charts and finally temperatures aloft. You don't want to find yourself trying to claw your way over the Rockies in CO if you are battling any of these three factors. Even a turbo charged airplane can quickly get in trouble if mother nature is working against you.
Take a good look at upper level Highs and Lows. It often pays to modify your route from direct to take advantage of tailwinds from these wx patterns.
I always call ahead to verify that fuel is really available at my intended stops. Nothing worse then landing only to find out the pumps or fuel truck is out of service, or the FBO is closed.
For more detailed info. please feel free to PM me.

I flew the route from S68 in Idaho to KSOA in Texas ( about 65 miles from the Mexican border )and the reverse in a Maule a few months ago. Great trip weather was definitely the determining factor in deciding the route. Stopped at Kanab KKNB both directions. Very pilot friendly even a motel (Aikens Lodge ) that will pick you up at the airport.
