Bing Carb
Have problems with your aircraft? Maybe just questions about how best to tune or adjust something? Regs or maintenance? Need to know the best way to do something?

This is kind of an odd question, but does anyone know if the auto tuning Bing carbs off BMW motorcycles is the same as those on a Rotax 914? The reason that I ask, is that the auto tuning Mikuni on my dad's Polaris Ranger has worn out, and the worn pieces can't be replaced because of EPA reasons (or at least that is what the Polaris people tell me), and the Bings on my kitfox are the exact same size and I know I can get parts for them. There are some supposedly type 64 Bings on eBay off of BMW motorcycles for really decent prices, and it would be an easy fix.

The Bing model 64, with a 36mm throttle, is what is used on the Rotax 9xx engines. It was also used on the "R" series boxer twin BMW motorcycles. I have also heard of people adapting Harley-Davidson C-V Keihin carbs to work as well.
Polaris probably does not want to piece-part the carbs and will only sell them as an assembly.

Thanks guys, that answers my question. I didn't know that Bing had a place so close, which may prove very handy. Polaris sells parts for the rest of the carburetor, but not for the auto-tune portion, which is riveted shut. We were told that they made it "tamper proof" in order to ensure that it would always meet emission standards and that that is why they also do not sell parts for that particular portion of the carb. Unfortunately, the spring guide above the slide fell out of the cap that it was pressed into, and broke the slide spring and it is hard to find one of the same diameter and constant, especially in its worn condition. Thanks again.
