Bit of a storm a brewin'

Looks like the whole western US is getting rain, but here in northern NV/CA we are getting hammered. Forecast 50+ mph winds just south of here with recorded gusts up to 80 mph, and most ski area lifts are on wind hold. Several inches of rain are forecast, with fairly high snow levels. Gonna be wet. Let's go flying!

Wow... Woke up this morning to what sounded like my house coming down. Local ASOS says peak gusts to 29 but whats been coming through my neighborhood has got to be higher than that it's straight up ripping out there.

Mark-

Are you floating over there? We're having a bit of a flood condition here, or at least it is shaping up to be. The Truckee river is swollen nearly to capacity, and a lot of lower areas have standing water. The local news stations are eating it up, they're running non-stop news. It's supposed to cool off tonight and start snowing, which is much better in my opinion. -Z

Wow John I didn't realize it was that bad on Longley and McCarran. I remember photos from '97, they had a bunch of big metal parked in the middle of 16R(I think), as it humps up slightly and was a high and dry spot.

I'm going to check on my storage unit off DoubleR.

The neighborhood:

Zane,

What a day / night. We had wind gusts 50 +, torrential rain and finally thunder/lightning storm that knocked out power here from 1pm until 10pm.
2005 didn't go out quitely! ;-)

BTW, in case anyone is really bored and wanted to know what the weather is like at my home, I have a weather station online. http://n6ea.com/weather/N6EA.htm

Looking dark and ominous here this am. Round two ???

N86 is wet but not flooded. Max put a culvert in and pushed a whole lotta dirt from the hump to the low spot over the culvert so the water didn't go across the runway like it used to. In '97 when RNO was closed N86 was open. My buddy has a weather station at O02 and the highest wind was 69 knots.

Well, I couldn't let you NV pansies go on and on about a little rain. Flood this, sandbag that, you'd think that there's something of Biblical proportion a foot!
Did I mention this weather sucks! Yeah, you have my sympathy. Two weeks now and I am tried of Oyster gray skies and constant precip. We too have had a share of what you are going through. Christmas Eve, we had 60+ gusts and today, we had a slight break about 10am. Thinking we would start the year off right with a log book entry. Four or five of us from the flield got all worked up to go. Off to the Coast and play on the beach! Not, a few quick calls to the various AWOS stations and it revealed that all around us, we had 15 gusting 25-30 and visibility of 4-6 with rain. A Briefer told one of the guys that it might be pretty now but to give it a half hour. He was right, went straight to Hell. This sucks and no end in sight.
Somebody find a sacrifice, a stone to rub or some kind of Divine intervention!
