Blue Angels shutdowns

From the local rag a few days ago: I-15 will be CLOSED several times, for a total of 15 hours, before and during the Idaho Falls performance. Wow, that takes some pull, they must know someone high up.

In todays paper:HOMEOWNERS DISPLACED BY AIRSHOW. A handful of local residents will have to (that is what it said, HAVE to) leave their homes to accomodate the Blue Angels practice sessions and airshows. They will be compensated an unspecified amount for the trouble. Now, if you, as a pilot and homeowner were told (OK, asked) to get out of your home so the Blue's could do their thing, what would you do? I'm afraid I would have already made other plans, such as a rooftop viewing area for myself and friends. A SWAT team would be needed to change my mind I'm afraid, I wonder if they would go that far? I wonder how they handle malcontents and trouble makers who refuse? Hopefully signing a release or just a firm "don't say we didn't warn you." Fat Albert doing low flybys?

The article goes on to say it is all of course safety related, and how can you argue with that? You can't. It does seem a bit heavy handed however. You can bet a lot of long haul truckers are going to be inconvienenced by the freeway shut down, and there is something to be said about the dangers of that itself.

Re: Blue Angels shutdowns

If it were me and didn't care too much about the airshow, I'd tell them that they need to send me on a 4-5 night vacation trip (or however long they want you away from your house). Nothing fancy, but reasonable!

Or, atleast $5000.00 compisasion and I'll make my own arangements.

Or, if I was hard core, I'd tell them to take a long walk on a short pier on a lake full of aligators!! And see how long the fight will last. Probably not long

For the truckers??? The heck with them!! About half of them need to shut down and let their logs catch up anyway!! Maybe a good time to roll in the shop and get their rigs serviced and get showers, and...........Ok, I'm just kidding!!!!!!!!!!

I bet most local run truckers know about the I-15 being shut down and will find a way around. And the drivers not knowing what's ahead will either get a notice from their dispacher (company drivers with SAT COM.) or other drivers mentioning the road is closed over the C.B. and relay a good by pass route. I'm sure there will be a detour, anyway??

I've seen and enjoyed the BA's----the first and best time was at Oceana Naval Air Station back in 1975 when they did better tricks. I just checked the national debt clock and see it is $13.22 trillion and wonder if this is really a good way to spend tax money in this day and age.

Re: Blue Angels shutdowns

During our local show, we had to vacate about a dozen homes that were located in the show box. Nothing special; supply them with a nice hotel suite, per diem, great seats and parking for the show. Sure they grumbled a little, but never really had a problem. Plus we approached them long before the show.

And if I'm gonna get raped by the government; I might as well be entertained at the same time.
