FAA puts sleep apnea policy on hold

Congratulations to everyone who contacted AOPA, EAA, their Representatives and anything else that let your feelings be known.

Your voice matters.

But don't think for one moment this fight is over, it's not. Let's stay engaged.

Good work everyone.

Well, now what do we talk about? Still four and a half more months of winter!

I think there's plenty of time for somebody to build an ultralight glider.

Humor may not make the world go around, but it certainly cheers up the process... :)
With clothing, the opposite of NOMEX is polypro (polypropylene cloth and fleece).

FAA drafts new sleep apnea guidelines

http://www.aopa.org/News-and-Video/All-News/2014/April/01/FAA-drafts-new-sleep-apnea-guidelines.aspx

This is much better behavior from the FAA, and solely as a result of the pressure they received from us, AOPA, EAA, and our representatives. Instead of handing down a unilateral dictatorial rule they are asking for the medical communities assistance and review of their proposed guidelines.

Still we can't become complacent, but rather must remain vigilant and vocal, reminding our government at every opportunity that they work for us and at our pleasure, not the reverse.

Re: BMI Saga

I never understood this whole BMI thing... I'm a hardcore Marathoner/Triathlete Last year I ran 6 Marathons, 2 Ironman's and a boat load of half's and olympic/sprint tri's. I typically do two-a-day brick workouts 3 days a week, and single workouts lasting 1 to 1.5 hours the rest of the week. I generally stay well away from carbs and eat pretty healthy diet. My body fat % is usually in the 7-10% range... Not being arrogant, but i keep myself in pretty good shape!

Now the funny part... I went in for my physical last year (my 40th birthday present) and at the end the nurse looks at me and says "Unfortunately, you're clinically obese...", and then proceeds to hand me a package of information regarding diet and exercise. I thought she was kidding and laughed when she said it, but she was stone cold serious and had this look on her face like she was disgusted with me. I was speechless. Because I carry more muscle than the average person, I fall outside the "standard formula". What a joke.

I think this is an example of the government being the government.

Glad to see this potential new rule going down the path of the Dodo (because, after all, they are Dodo's!).

Jim

[EDIT: AND BTW... That freaken nurse could have stood to lose 30-40lbs... Her ass looked like two pit-bull's in a bag fighting]
