bogs hot springs, ne of alturis,ca.

am thinking of flying over to bogs hot springs in the plane and wondering if there is a place to land not far from the springs. have been told that you can land on the road or someplace nearby. apparently Denio in Nevada is close by.

Re: bogs hot springs, ne of alturis,ca.

There have been some other discussions of Bog and other hotsprings in the general area, but I'm too lazy to dig them up. Briefly, Bog is a dandy hot spring with a wide gravel road a few hundred yards from it. It is pretty easy to land on the road and there is a flat spot to pull off. While the main road is an all weather road, the side road to the springs and the flat all get plenty muddy after a rain.

Denio Junction (e85), is about ten miles East of Bog Hot springs. They have Mogas with ethanol, a cafe, a simple store, and a motel. The airstrip is dirt, with a cross wind and regular runway. I've camped on the airport, but I don't know if it is officially okay. I can't see anyone caring as long as you don't camp in the middle of the runway. The locals walk, jog, exercise dogs, and cut across the runways with old pickup trucks, so watch out for them.

In the general area are Alvord Hot Springs, Mickey Hot Springs, Willow Creek Hot Springs, and a bunch more south in the Black Rock Desert area. Have fun. This is a neat area to explore.

On our Idaho road trip a few weeks back, I stoped at Denio. Thier premium grade is eth free. Test anyway.

Sharon and I soaked at Alvord hot spring. Landing on the road would be easy and there is a turn out at the spring. Oh and Fields station was great. Not the best shake and not the best burger. Best shake and burger combination west of the Rockies.
