Bombardier (BRP) Engine for Cessna 182??

Does anyone here have any information about the Bombardier BRP engine? Is it STC'd for a 1958 Cessna 182A? Pro's versus Con's?

I have to admit, I didn't do any research myself. Just thought I'd start with the experts here on BCP :D

And the only reason why I ask, is that I have a friend down in Mississippi that almost became a dealer for the small aircraft replacement motors for Bombardier. She's thinking she can get me a smoking deal on a reman/new engine for my 58 182. I don't know :-k

More than likely, it's (BRP) not the way I'll go (if it's even available). But I'm just in the information gathering mode right now.

Thanks guys!!

After doing a short Google search, I'm thinking the BRP engine is more for the experimental aircraft crowd??

The engine is quite a nice powerplant, and is a type certified engine, but BRP pulled the plug on the program just after they gained certification. Too bad, the two models, (I think 250 hp, and 300 hp turbo), are a nice clean bit of engineering, and would have been great in a lot of different planes.

if we had much of a choice, i'd rather a gnarly big bore polaris 2-stroke, TC of course...not that long ago a good friend, now gone thanks to a piece of crap stunt plane, was helping us build motors for grass-dragger sleds...not turbo'd, but able to produce 100 mph in about 5 seconds....on the dirt! these old boxer motors we are all pushing around the sky are darn good, but quite limited at best...air cooled motors are simple, but have quite a few limits....jo
