Awesome! You will have so much more fun training in your own airplane.

One of my favorite Savage video's. The landing at the ski hill at the end is killer.

Way to pull the trigger! Lots of grins per gallon with that plane.

Pretty cool, man. There's no feeling like it, a freedom unmatched by most other assets. I often dream about what I could do with my own plane if I didn't have a job to report to, but as we know remains a paradox without some sort of trust fund or rich daddy.

Lots of good video of the Savage Cub in action here by our buddy Massimo.

Gotta agree with Courierguy, you need some room to move to get on that wee flap handle down there, without leaving your shoulder harnesses floppy. So how long before you're ready to solo it?

I think most of us can relate. But hey, money doesn't make memories. Having your own badass plane certainly will! =D>

Congratulations!

Reading all your posts, you have to be one of the most psyched guys on this site! Keep up the stoke!

Enjoy finishing your rating in that thing, and get that shit done before summer... you wont regret it

Having just bought my own first plane last April after dealing with some medical issues as well, I know the feeling. And boy is it a good one.

Re: BOOM. Pulled The Trigger. I'm an Airplane Owner

Man, that plane probably doubled it's lifetime landings on that trip to Ohio. -Wore out those tires.

Just kiddin...but it did alright at 10K. The wings didn't fall off or anything.

I hate to correct two of my favorite BCPers but that flap handle is actually in a pretty optimal place. Of course I still hated it because my muscles think it should be about 8 inches lower. It was a lot different from my plane. I wonder how much was the difference between a short tail and a long and how much was Savage vs. S7.

But that's another thread for another day. Congrats and welcome to the living rich but broke as hell for life club.

Hoping you mean me when you say "favorite BCPer" and that I rank above Courierguy, attractive and bearded as he is. I've never flown a Savage cub, only your S7. I just assumed the flap handle was in the same spot, given all the other similarities, but now looking closer at the cockpit photo I see it's a more traditional Cub location for the lever. Although... I'm solidly in camp CubCrafters when it comes to preferred flap handle location. 8)

Re: BOOM. Pulled The Trigger. I'm an Airplane Owner

My love is equal and everlasting for each of you. I tried so hard to get my mom and or dad to confess they loved me more than my sister. They never folded, but we all know the truth somewhere deep inside, or at least since she had that hideous orange shag carpet in her crappy bedroom...

But anyway. Yeah equal. If some guy came to my hangar and somehow pulled out the jammy and stuck it to my head before I could knock him up side the noggin with a flap handle and he was like, "f0%ckin' tell me how to convert this HTML table to a cascading style sheet in three minutes or I'm unloading the clip", then I would love you the most Zanie Baby."

If I were treading on some sovereign nation with a flipped plane on my hands and the Shaman was like, "I'm gonna bocka chocka turna-you into a stir-fry if this plane isn't out of here in three minutes", then I would immediately tap into my equal love sack and speed dial Courierguy to give a group hug to his come-along with-lightening-holes.

But anyway, yeah Crazyvan13, welcome to the group hug. You don't have to feel so naked on this forum now, which is also appreciated at the group hug.

I also erred on that gear fairing comment, for some reason I was thinking it was totally unfaired/uncovered. I guess the unfaired bungees was all I noticed..... as to the covered A-frames, for max drag reduction they should have a aft fairing as opposed to just fabric over round tubes. Anything is better then totally unfaired though! I have yet to put any nicks or tears in my gear leg fabric, so no real downside. Anything that would teat them up would raise hell with the tail feathers and belly also. Yeah it's a little confusing for a S-7 pilot to look at a Savage, I tend to see all the things that are identical or very nearly so, and miss things like that moved flap handle. FWIW, I'd probably still have the inertial reel for the increase freedom of movement and comfort, I really like mine but for sure not a must have.

I stand by my seat cushion comment though! I can sit in mine all day and then some in complete comfort, just with that simple and cheap temperfoam ass cushion, that and the thick sheepskin, no high dollar upholstery job needed.

Re: BOOM. Pulled The Trigger. I'm an Airplane Owner

I like the location of the flap handle. I don't like how the seat attaches to the bracket. It's riveted, not bolted in. And CG you're right the stock seat is hard as a rock. In the current configuration EW is 660 lbs. it has 9 gallon tanks and they state 44 lbs in the baggage is ok. Everything is minimal. There is rib stitching instead of rivets and the trim is manual also. I'm used to a crank in a Cherokee so the manual part doesn't bother me too much, but the trim adjustment if freaking weird. It has a handle much like the throttle but the stops look like sharp little gears and the handle has a single pointy "gear" on it. The previous owner told me he cut his little finger on it a few times.

Here's a third grade drawing:

Floorboards are also minimal. They definitely designed it with weight savings in mind. Gross takeoff weight is 1235. I'm 170 lbs. shouldn't have a problem with weight, just space to haul it.

Re: BOOM. Pulled The Trigger. I'm an Airplane Owner

As far as solo flight etc, we are annual-ing it now and replacing all the rubber lines. ALL the fuel lines are rubber. From the tanks throughout. The manufacturer says every five years you should replace all rubber. That shit is gonna get expensive and already thinking about aluminum for the next time around but going cheap this time.

The landing gear bungees also require a five year replacement and we are waiting for those as well as flap bungees. The lg bungees were pretty worn out and the right wing was a little low in its stance. From what I'm learning a new TW pilot would prefer new bungees. Haha wink wink.

Re: BOOM. Pulled The Trigger. I'm an Airplane Owner

Congrats man! That is awesome!!

Sidewinder summed it well. Even this morning as I was entering my credit card info for a $400 vernatherm to try to solve my oil temp issue, and Dee looking at the amount of cash that's flown out over the last week for avgas...and with a planned Chicken Strip trip this coming weekend...I still have a big grin on my face from last week's two trips to AZ. The last year as an owner has been one of the best years of my life hands down.

Can't wait to see pics and to hear updates on your training.

I used automotive fuel line in my S6. I've never replaced fuel line in my cars so I hope I won't have to replace this stuff.
