British Columbia Pilots Association

The BC Pilots Association http://bcpilots.org/ has basically just launched. The goal is to get more pilots flying more places. There is a BC map on the site that has a lot of strips that are not in the books. This map will be open to non-members for a bit so check it out if you like it. If you click on some of the airports/strips it has links to you tube videos that show approaches and landings. Many of these are provided by Back Country Pilot guys. Take a look around, This is a work in progress but we have included most of the strips along the Trench route to Alaska and we will fill the details in as we can find them.
From a backcountry stand point we are trying to local many old strips and seeing what is involved in getting them re activated. Some of those old strips were used for logging and mining and the leases have run out. The BC Government now has an airstrip policy and it does favor not for profit organizations renewing those leases at very low costs. The idea and concept is someday to have something similar to Idaho and Utah with places to go for breakfast/fishing /hunting/camping whatever.
From the front country side we have a lots of great resorts that have strips that nobody even knows about, like Fairmont Hot Springs. They just had a beer festival, you got 2 free mugs of beer, 1 room with a queen size bed and full use of the spa and hot springs for $139.00 They drove you back and forth to the airport and they had a long drive golf competition down the runway, but you had to drink your 2 beer first.
I know that kind of info does not interest you back country guys but it is going up on the BCPILOTS site anyway. Go look around, if you like it join up , if you don't just click delete.

Re: British Columbia Pilots Association

Sounds like a great site! We have done Fairmont every winter for the last 20 something years. Never been I'm the summer, but sounds like this festival is the time to see it.

That would be cool , but to each his own. Personally I enjoy going out and checking out off airport strips, especially if there is a creek or lake associated. I think this is a good start to what could be a valuable resource for pilots that want to fly in BC.

Good looking site, magnum. Would be great to utilize shortfield.com for any strip location/info so the data is consolidated.

Re: British Columbia Pilots Association

Signed up. Bet I'm the lowest hour guy so far. If so, glad to bring up the rear, so to speak.

Love the idea. Be great to get stiched in to Shortfield.

Wasn't there an airstrip at Alvin, on the Pitt River, at one time? That would be a great strip to get back in the mix.

I think British Columbia is fairly well represented on BCP, I hope you get a good response

Re: British Columbia Pilots Association

There is already a link to BCP on the site. I will talk to the powers that be about stitching it to Shortfield. I think there used to be a strip at Alvin a long time ago, it came right off the lake I think. Maybe chainsaws and bushwhackers could make it so again. Worth looking into.
