British test pilot Eric 'Winkle' Brown

I consider myself reasonably educated when it comes to aviation history, but I'm embarrassed to say I'd never even heard of Eric Brown. Almost 500 aircraft types flown and over 2400 carrier landings, both almost incomprehensible numbers. He watched Jesse Owens embarrass the Nazis at the 1936 Olympics, flew the Me-163 and lived to tell, landed the first jet on a carrier, the list goes on and on.

Definitely worth the time to watch.

Thank you Cannon, that story was beyond remarkable. What a life that man lived.

I highly recommend his book "Wings of the Weird and Wonderful". Great insight and analysis of many iconic and interesting aircraft. His review of the Winter Zaunkonig, arguably the easiest to fly and most idiot-proof aircraft in history, is delightful.

It would be hard to write a more interesting life.... If his life was a fiction novel, I would say the author had a pretty vivid imagination. Amazing

Re: British test pilot Eric 'Winkle' Brown

Capt. Brown lived not far from here and was still giving lectures just before Christmas. His number of types flown and number of carrier landings both look hard to beat, but surviving 11 airplane crashes - well that's not hopelessly out of reach... :)

Re: British test pilot Eric 'Winkle' Brown

Let's raise our glasses to the Old School, the aviation world has lost a rare pilot whose achievements were both legend and fact.

RIP, sir, and thank you for your many remarkable contributions to the art and science of flight. We are in your debt.
