Brrrrrr!

Well, it's -33 in Fairbanks, and -51F in scenic downtown Fort Yukon, folks, and some of THAT is headed our way in the Lower 48.

So, buckle up Buttercup, it's gonna be a cool one, at least in the middle of the country.

Zane may be thinking about Oregon again..... :D .

Stay warm, people, only us dolts go out in weather like this. #-o

Yeah was -47 at my place in Takotna. Glad I'm in Wyoming where the wind chill only made it to -40 this morning

That is so cool that you have a place in Takotna! A buddy and I have long talked about spending several days there during the Iditarod watching the racers come and go (while enjoying some pie, of course).

It is, but the rink I was shoveling off cracked from expansion, then cracked again during our big snow event and I saw some overflow. I didn't even bother to clear it that day. We have a good string of subzeros this week though that I hope are going to build more thickness and freeze the slush.

It's fun to behold the ice formation. It fascinates me. My favorite time is when the lake is frozen but not covered in snow. Last winter I managed to capture that narrow window of time:

Two actually! Want one? :D Im not sure if the tribal council will let Iditarod in this year again, they are still covid scared. I should be out there in late January or early February if things work out, we should stay in touch!

Re: Brrrrrr!

The Snake River was frozen over the other day, skimmed along it on the skis for 30+ miles. Never came to a full stop though  .

Re: Brrrrrr!

Minus 38 in Bozeman at the moment, but not quite sunrise yet, so likely to drop a few more right after.

Yeeee-Haw! Wore my old Upper Yukon marten hat yesterday shoveling snow, first time I’ve worn it in BZN. Toasty!

Re: Brrrrrr!

Nice pleasant 8 above in Boise right now, with the weather guess calling for lower 40's and rain next week. :)

Re: Brrrrrr!

minus 18 here in NW Iowa and the 29 mph wind is blowing the snow around making for minus 50 wind chill. I still remember the coldest I've ever seen it was at Belgrade MT back in 1985------minus 34. Was hauling little black angus calves from south of Missoula so put just about all No 1 diesel in the truck. Was surprised when they all walked off the truck in Hinckley Illinois looking good.

Re: Brrrrrr!

This was yesterday morning. Last winter I saw -38°F reported from KEVM, which is next door to my house. I'm sure the native Minnesotans have seen much worse.

Re: Brrrrrr!

Currently -15F here, -31F with the wind chill. Last week it only got down to -11 so this might be the coldest day of the winter. I like flying when it’s cold so planned on going flying this morning but sometimes my old pickup won’t start when it’s this cold.

Can't you use the same technology and techniques you would use to get the airplane started? 8)

Haha. I keep it plugged in during the winter but it’s old and well used so sometimes that isn’t enough.

Zzzz, That's just balmy! Wait until it gets real cold!! LOL

I've got a picture somewhere of my thermometer with the mercury (whatever it is these days) in the very bottom of the bulb. It was below the lowest number on there. Been a few years ago...but it was a tad bit chilly.
