Building the Ultimate Amphibious Carbon Cub (Teaser Alert)

2015 is the 'Year Of The Kit' here at CubCrafters and several exciting new innovations we've been working on for quite a while will be announced this year for our kit aircraft program. To kick it all off, we have a demonstration project going to show just how creative a kit builder can be with one of our EAB Carbon Cub kit aircraft. At Sun-N-Fun we’ll be displaying a Carbon Cub with more horsepower (a Lycoming 0-375 instead of a 340 cubic inch factory engine), the latest technology Whirlwind STOL constant speed composite prop, an updated Dynon touch screen glass panel, and this aircraft will be on the very popular Aerocet composite amphibious floats developed for the Carbon Cub.

Initial testing (on wheels) for the engine/prop combination is showing 140 MPH TAS at about 24” MP and 2400 RPM (~75% power cruise). With both long range tanks installed and what should be about 800 lbs. useful load… well you get the picture.

I shouldn't say more as I don’t want to steal any of Zane’s potential thunder with this teaser post. I am hoping to meet up with Zane on the way back from Sun-N-Fun and see if he wants to hop in the airplane and give you all a more detailed report on his impressions. But in the meantime, if you want the full back-story on this airplane and the inspiration for this project, it’s over on the CubCrafters forum here: Randy's Ultimate Amphib Carbon Cub. You’ll have to register to see the rest of the pictures, but it’s a worthwhile read and more regular updates on the project and flight to Sun-n-Fun will be upcoming.

Very cool. I can imagine some uses for that!

Does the tail wheel stay on, or will that be coming off?
