Bull Run Pics & Now Video...M20C

mWent to Bull run the other day for a little adventure. It was a great strip and I was able to get several pictures that hopefully will give a better idea of what the strip looks like. I'll be posting them on shortfield.com soon. I have to edit the video's soon, as they are kinda long! Def a great place to go and it looks like there is a place you can park on the North side, then a big open area a little further north that looked like a fire pit. Can't wait to go back!

Nice! Sure is looking green there right now. Seems like all the grass in Oregon looks nice and green from the air right now.

Wow! Dude, I'm impressed. I owned an M20C for a few years and would have never thought about going into a place like Bull Run. I fly into Bull run frequently to fish, but I'm flying a Super Cub now. My approaches look much different! A word of caution, please be careful. That airstrip can be trickey if there's any wind  . I typically land up river and take off down river. In the few years I've been flying in there I've seen 3 crashes, mostly ground loops, but there are some big rocks (as I'm sure you noticed) on both sides of the "runway". Fly Safe! :D

Thanks! I landed down river because there was a 3kt or so slight tailwind upstream. There is a wind meter just to the north side of the field that is near the tracks, this gave me a good idea of the direction of the wind, especially since it was spinning! Then I didn't want to takeoff here with a tailwind so I of course took off downstream I had no problems getting in or out. You do have to be on your toes for something like a Mooney thought thats for sure. At least I can't really ground loop in a nose dragger! I did notice some of the bigger rocks, not alot of big guys on the runway, mainly on the sides marking the edges of the runway. I walked the strip after I landed and took away anything semi big. for me and anyone else that comes to the strip.

Actually, you can...the only airplane I ever groundlooped was a Mooney! It was a flying club plane and unknown to me, someone with a tug or towbar had turned the nose gear beyond its limits and broken the linkage. I touched down in a strong, gusty crosswind and as soon as the nosewheel hit the pavement the fun began.

ouch thats no fun, I wont let people tow or touch the plane really unless im there. And I periodically check to enusure it hasn't caused damage from something I did or others. Better safe than sorry. Good to know though!
