Re: Burns Pancake Breakfast

Mom is quite ill at this time. My younger Bro and his wife are taking care of her and need a rest. They want to leave town for a few days so I volunteered. I am sure that summer will show up and I should be able to make it tp both places.

Re: Burns Pancake Breakfast

I'll try to be there permitting weather of course. Where does one get a permit for weather these days anyhow?

Hah!

Planning on going. Hoping to head there a few days earlier and explore a bit more around the Steens and Alvord.

Has anyone landed near Willow Creek (aka Whitehorse) hot spring? +42° 16' 31.65", -118° 15' 55.39" (42.275459, -118.265387). It's billed as Oregon's most remote hot spring? Google earth makes it look easy!

Answered my own question. Thanks Tom.

I landed there last fall. The road is a pretty decent two track. There are a few ruts, washed out spots, and those damn sticker bushes. Last fall the best strip of road was about a quarter mile east of the hot springs. Be sure to drag the strip first, as conditions out there change constantly. Once there, you will find two nice soaking pools with sandy bottoms and varied temperatures. The pool nearest the road is where the hot water comes in, and so you can get a pretty hot soak by getting right over the spot that it comes up through the sand. The other pool is filled by overflow from the first, and is cooler. Nice on a hot day. There is lots of room to camp nearby.

Regarding remoteness. It is definitely out of the normal path, but it still gets lots of use because it is so nice.

Morning Eric. Right now the wx is shaping up quiet nice for a early morning flight to Burns. I will keep your offer as a option if the wx guesses are wrong. Thanks! I can smell the pancakes already. I hope there is bacon, oh bacon how I love thee.

Re: Burns Pancake Breakfast

I first met Bub and Brenda in '05 while flying back and forth from Mammoth Lakes, CA to Bridge Lake, BC. The courtesy car was not available but Bub called Brenda and had her drive to the airport where they loaned us her car for our useage. This act of kindness to people they had never met before. We have had dinner with Bub and Brenda a couple of times and even got to see his post 182 plane.

I am very sorry that we won't be able to attend the Pancake Fly-In, we are in Kenai, Alaska but rest assured, we are thinking of Bub and Brenda constantly.

To Bub I say, good luck buddy and hang in there. I will send you some pictures and wish you were with us. All our best, Ford and Wendy

Re: Burns Pancake Breakfast

The pancakes, bacon, sausage were great. BCP members attending, Bub, dokmow, guywagon, robburson, 52Romeo, qmdv. The wx was nice. It was great Bub made it out to see us and his local friends. Bub's wife Brenda and son Raymond were there too.

The mosquitoes tried to carry us away but we fought them off.

Out to mow the grass so I can go to graduation dinner.

Cheers...Rob

Re: Burns Pancake Breakfast

One of the best pancake feeds ever. They really don't want you to go away hungry. Thick sliced real ham and great bacon, sausage, two or more thick pancakes, coffe, juice, live music. What else could you want....Good friends...They were there also. Nice flight out of Salem and back, not a ripple in the air. Just a great day.

Thanks all

Re: Burns Pancake Breakfast

A good day for flying, and the food was great. Was nice meeting everyone and to put faces to screen names, especially Bub and Brenda. Hope to see more BCP's this summer. =D>

Re: Burns Pancake Breakfast

Sorry I missed it but I may have sold my 150 share.

Sounds like a great time and good warning that it's bug juice season.

Popped down to Lebanon for the strawberry fly-in. Not too many folks but the parade was going on. Eventually some kids showed up for the free "young eagles" rides. Hats off to the volunteer pilots.

Re: Burns Pancake Breakfast

Bub: If you watch The Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel you will recognize the Time Bandit. It is moored in the Port of Homer, AK. The other picture is of Wes, "headoutdaplane", his girl friend Stephanie, my wife, and another couple visiting from Seattle. All 6 of us are pilots, Wes is chief pilot for Smokey Bay Air, Stephanie flies her own 206 on floats, Ben is a private pilot, and Judy flies a C17 for the FAA in Seattle!!

The reason I am telling you this is to let you know why we weren't in Burns yesterday, sadly. The other reason is to let others know what friendships can develop from the BCP forum. When I first met Wes a couple of days ago, he invited me to accompany him on a mail delivery to a remote First Nation village. Today he invited us to join him and his friends for a boat ride across the bay to Halibut Bay for dinner. Drop dead beautiful.

When I first met you and Brenda 5 yrs ago, you showed me the same type of friendship that Wes and other BCPers have. I am very proud of the members that made the effort to join you for breakfast and equally proud of those that couldn't but still sent good thoughts and words. Later, FF
