BVS-Pickin up a Wilga/by Trailer??

Paul and I are going to run over from the dry side of the state and pull the wings off a Wilga, put it on a trailer and bring it home.
Does anyone know of someone with a forklift on the airport?
Would be great to meet some of the wet side flyers!!
We might be coming over on Friday the 9th?
I have to run back up to Anchorage for work on the 13th and will be getting back on the 17th, so might be after that if we don't make it on the 9th.

And just for grins, does anyone know where this one ended up, was looking at it, but lost contact with who owned it, he got screwed on a deal to put it back together and was trucking it home? Real interested in finding it!

Re: BVS-Pickin up a Wilga/by Trailer??

There's been one sitting here at KDVT for about 3 years now. The guy had just bought it and a few months later he was killed in another plane that he had just bought bringing it back from Texas. They crashed short of the airport in New Mexico while stopping for gas. I don't know what the widow plans on doing with it.

Re: BVS-Pickin up a Wilga/by Trailer??

I flew over to Skagit for lunch yesterday, turning off the runway I looked over & saw the Wilga still there & was wondering when you were gonna come get it. For a forklift, you might try Vertex Aviation (360-757-4876 or 360-540-1642) or Corporate Air (360-757-7757 or 360-941-2777), or maybe Heritage Flight Museum on the other side of the airport (360-424-5151). Fed Ex also has a facility on the airport, they fly Caravans out of there & probably have something.

When you get your retrieval schedule figured out, post it here. I check this site every morning and if I can get over there to meet up with you and maybe help get the Wilga torn down and loaded, I will.

How you get onto that airplane? I know the Port of Skagit hung tags on both the Wilga & the T-Bone saying they'd be put up for auction to satisfy the tiedown bills, but those tags were on there for months (if not years) and nothing ever seemed to come of it. My local port advertises boats to be auctioned (no airplanes yet!) in the local newspaper. Did Skagit finally advertise them on barnstormers or trade-a-plane?

BTW the Kitty Hawk Café at Skagit is going out of business, today's their last day. The owner got crossways with the Port of Skagit (over $$) and they pulled their lease. Too bad. I hope someone comes along to open it back up again, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Re: BVS-Pickin up a Wilga/by Trailer??

Thanks for the info, will let you know what's going on when we figure it out.
My friend Paul was over there to Arlington a couple of years ago and sent me a picture of the notice.
Took me a while but finally talked to the port of Skagit and let them know I was interested.
a couple months ago I got an email said it was coming up for auction,
I was the only 1 that bid on the T-bone and there were 3 of us bidding on the Wilga.
Sold the T-bone to fellow in NY, he should be out here sometime in Jan. He's looking for a hangar to put it in if you know of one.
Lookin forward to hookin up, Would appreciate the help gettin the wings off.

Hey George, I did a little digging and found out that the plane at KDVT isn't the one owned by the guy that died in the other plane crash. It supposedly was bought by an older fella that lives out Northwest of Phoenix who only flew it a few times and then brought to our local PZL guru for an annual and it never left, that's all I know about it. Here's a pic of it that I took yesterday if you want to try and get ahold of him to see if it's for sale.

Re: BVS-Pickin up a Wilga/by Trailer??

Hey George,
I did a little more snooping around, nobody seems to know much about it, but I found out who ferried it to DVT for the owner, his name is Travis, and he works for Airpower Insurance 866-475-9199, and supposedly he talks to the owner from time to time, you can call him and see if he can help. That's all I've got for now.

Re: BVS-Pickin up a Wilga/by Trailer??

Well, after looking the bird over it is in surprisingly good shape!!
Still has compression in the engine, No deterioration of any thing that amounts to much, Will be able to replace the tube that the counter weight hangs on with no problem, no corrosion any where that I have been able to find!
