C-170B...Where to mount a fire extinguisher?

I just picked up some Halon extinguishers. a 1.25 lb that is about 11" tall, and a 2.5 lb that is about 16" tall. I didn't know which size would work out better for the plane, so I got them both, and will keep the non-plane one in my tie-down storage.

Wondering where people have seen them mounted inside the cockpit, particularly in a C170 or equivalent. I have slightly later -model seats from a C172. I would like to try under the pilot seat, but now I have one of those Cessna secondary seat locks to get in the way- not sure if there's still room. Under the copilot seat might be next-best. Looking for any good recommendations. Manual flap handle and fuel selector to allow for, too.

By the way, if you're around Anchorage I found these at Yukon Fire, on Silverado Way. Might have them at the FBOs too, I just never checked. Not cheap. About $150 for the 1.25 lb and $175 for the 2.5 lb. They can also certify them for you if you are required under 135, and they can service them at the recommended 6-year intervals.

Thanks.

DP,

I mounted my extinguisher horizontally on a plate secured to the front of my co-pilot seat frame. The frame is recessed far enough behind the front of the seat that the extinguisher is out of sight, doesn't interfere with the co-pilot's legs, and yet is easily accessible by both pilot and co-pilot.

I mounted my fire extinguisher aligned parallel to the flap handle on the port side ahead of the pivot axis. It's very accessible and never gets in the way of anything. I'll post pictures when I get a chance.

I did the same when I had my 170, except on the pilot's seat. I mounted the fire ext in my C150 on the top of the tunnel in front of the flap handle. Out of the way, yet handy.

Mine is under the pilots seat and still allows room for the Cessna secondary seat lock assembly which is also installed.

Mine's also under the pilot's seat (stock 170 seat) and the secondary seat stop is installed.

My older straight tail 182 is pretty similar inside dimensions .I mounted mine to floor just aft of Flap tunnel on floor -aligned with forward head toward engine. Easy access from any seat. I have a 3lb. Halon with mounting bracket. Got it from ebay -Canada several years back -think it was about 100 bucks .

Ours is under the co-pilot seat, easy to get to and not in the way of anything.

Mine is attached to the pilot seat braces underneath which worked very well but then again I don't have the service kit installed.

Wouldn't work in Canada. Freezes at 32 degrees.

Mine is also behind the fuel selector on the floor. Perfect distance from the selector to put my Flightguide in vertically. Two rivnuts in the inspection panel below the carpet.
