WTB: C-180 fuel selector

WTB ... C-180 fuel selector pt # 0311070-1
Today I added fresh fuel, hoping to do a ground run on my C-180' after major refurb.
Unfortunately I had a fuel leak at the fuel selector valve pt # 0311070-1 so I removed the selector in anticipation of ordering a McFarlane repair kit. It gets worse ...The fuel selector housing is cracked. In hindsight I obviously should of checked it for water before winter set in ... Arghh.
So, does anyone know a source for a used fuel selector valve?
I am hoping I can find one at a nearby by Cessna bone yard, but will not know for a few days. It is harvest time here and folks are busy.
Also, has anyone out there installed the McFarlane fuel selector repair kit?
Thanks

Re: C-180 fuel selector

The McFarlane kits can range in difficulty to install. If you find a used valve, definitely put a kit in it. If you post a photo of the valve, or a screenshot of the exploded diagram, I'm sure some pointers will be offered in how to go about it. I've done a couple for 1964-65 182s. I think yours is even easier.

Call Kenny faeth, faeth aircraft salvage in California. They sell exchanges, and reseal them. Cessna valves can be tricky.

Re: C-180 fuel selector

Does anyone remember the name of the aircraft salvage - junk yard that was within throwing distance of the north west side of one of the two Cecil Reid Hillview airports. You could incur a minor incident and they would usually find the part requisite parts while you had meal at an old fashioned diner on the opposite side of the strip. Part of me wants to say it was Faeth, but that was 50-60 yrs ago.  Trim

Re: C-180 fuel selector

Sorry, I can't help you in finding a used valve.

BUT, when you install the valve, add a quick drain to the port on the bottom of the valve, and make sure there's a matching hole in the belly for access.

You may already have this setup, but it was not stock Cessna to install a quick drain in the selector.....but it should be. In many of these planes, the selector valve is the low point in the fuel system when the plane is on the ground.

If you're not getting water out of other drains, there may not be a real need to check this one every day, but as you found out, draining it prior to cold weather is essential.

If you're flying one of these planes, verify that you have a quick drain at the fuel selector.

Re: C-180 fuel selector

Been down this road couple annuals ago, pulled mine and someone had ruined it whilst attempting to "fix it" in the past I presume.

These things are outrageous from Cessna, around $4K if I remember correctly, cheapest new I found was still about $3500.

Finally found what I was looking for at Skywagon City, www.skywagon-city.com. Think I paid around $2K for a like new one that was in excellent condition n did not need the overhaul kit, that's the no exchange price as mine was shot. They did have cheaper ones that would most likely need the kit, which made it kinda a wash price wise.

I have one that is in good shape that might work, I am not sure of the part number though. If you would like I can text you some pictures.

Re: WTB: C-180 fuel selector

Fortunately I found the required fuel selector just an hours drive from home.
I will put the McFarlane repair kit in ... Crazy price from Cessna indeed.
Good idea on the quick drain ...
Thanks folks
