WASHINGTON (CNN) -- An Air Force C-5 cargo jet carrying 17 people crashed and broke into pieces Monday while trying to make an emergency landing near Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, Air Force and FAA officials said.
Some reports say injured were taken to local hospital, so maybe some good news as far as survivors.

In case anybody was wondering NO I wasn't on it. Everyone survived although some were pretty banged up. All I know is that they were really heavy and they lost an engine on takeoff. Should know some more in the next couple days. The airplane was being flown by the 512th Airlift Wing which is a reserve wing out of Dover. For those that didn't know I'm a Flight Engineer on the C-5 in the 60th Air Mobility Wing at Travis AFB, CA.

Glad to hear all crew members of that C5A accident are ok. Looks like there will be lots of spare parts left of that one.
My Cub is based at Martinsburg (MRB) WV and the guard unit here is scheduled to received a bunch of C5As maybe starting next year don't know for sure at this time. All the C130s are gone. They will be building 3 hangars for them here with one under construction now. Starting this year, they are also going to tear up and regrade the now only runway to accommodate C5As. They closed our only cross-wind runway. I hope to get a picture of my cub next to one some day.
We fought to save our cross-wind runway but GA at this airport is second class.
But, on the bright side, I'll be able to land across anywhere on the new widened runway!
