C-85 oil filter

I have been looking into putting a oil filter on my C-85 but I'd like on that doesn't have any external oil lines. This is the one I think I like.Image

Anyone have experience with these? My thought is that it would be worth the $224.50 so the oil would be filtered better. But then again neither of my VW buses had filters either

There would be an additional 20 bucks every 25 hrs when I change my oil but that is just pennies when compared to an overhaul.

Another plus of the external filter is better cooling, and an extra quart of circulating oil. Made a big difference in my T Cart.

That looks like the same filter adapter as used on the O-200. I seem to recall reading here or somewhere on the internet that this adapter will work on the C-85-12, but not the -8. If that's the case, it might be possible to use the C-145/O-300 adapter which is sorta like a T-fitting which takes the place of the oil screen. www.fm-enterprises.com just sez c-75,C-85,C-90, and O-200 series. Doesn't specifically mention either the -8 or the -12.
FWIW, I used to change oil at 25 hours with just the screen, when I installed the filter they said you could go 50 hours. That seems a bit long so I go 35 or 40 hours.

I've got the -12 so the FM adapter will work. I didn't think about the cooling aspect of an external filter...that'll be nice during the summer months but a pain it the winter.

You could always tie-wrap a wool sock around it......I was just checking out somebody's continental 4-banger recently (can't recall what airplane, my CRS is kickin' in) and it had a sort of form-fitted blankety thing covering the oil tank.
