C150/F-16 Mid-Air

Anyone have any insight into how the two collided? News report was that the F16 was doing practice IFR approaches and the C150 was in contact with ATC. Not sure how accurate this is, but it seems to me if they were both talking to someone looking at radar this should never have happened. I'm wondering if some controller is going to burn for this.

Re: C150/F-16 Mid-Air

Not sure what happened. Tried to put some logic to it this morning.

Looks as if the collision occurred near MTR IR18. Also the RNAV approach to Charleston AFB runway 21 looks to point at the collision area.

From the latest story in the Charleston Post and Courier: http://www.postandcourier.com/article/2 ... -collision the plantation looks to be pretty much in line w/ the RWY 21 RNAV approach in addition to being close to IR18.

The story states both planes had transponders which were working.

No clue other than proximity of fast mover to civilian AC at low altitudes.

Family of C150 pilot and son also had another family tragedy same day

Horrible day made even worse.
