C170 Resto - Noodling along...

I feel bad about all the Cessna resto threads on BCP, but c'est la vie I suppose.

Ive been noodling with this C170B off and on... (Shared some pics in the past) sportsman, Atlees, bit bigger rubber, etc...

This week:weekend I got deep into paint. Pulled the stabs, new cables, custom N#, sanded, sanded, sanded, and sanded some more... Washed, masked, tacked, and at 6am, started with paint.

Tomorrow i will do the stripe and leading edges (sportsman.)

In and Out "Bone" Imron 3.5 for the base, and Subaru WRX blue with silver accent trim (base/clear Standox) for the sides.

Gonna be sharp!

Can't wait to see it unmasked! What's the story with the pitot on that thing?

That was a dealer option. Heated pitot tube. Fact Cessna part. Fairly rare.

This is really exciting to follow.. that paint choice sounds just fantastic.. Really anxious to see how it turns out! Nice retro, yet modern scheme!

Can't way to see more!

I like the paint scheme. =D>

I'm curious - did you also consider to chemically strip the paint and if so, why did you chose to take the dusty route?

If you have ever stripped an airplane, the answer to this question becomes abundantly clear... #-o

Seriously though, although probably the "correct" way to go, stripping is far too big a pain in the ass, and way too messy for me in the dog days of summer. A heavy sand will be just fine for this one...

Okay, okay...But a 170 isn't 'just an airplane', is it? :)

Never seen a Cessna pitot tube come out of the leading edge like that. Usually they mount on the bottom-- my 53 180 has one like that.

I love the mid-air refueling adapter on the left wing, super handy if you find a tanker with 100ll :)
