The skywagon club does have some cheap, as in nearly free, STCs available to members

Yes they will send you anything, but it may take a bloody long time and cost a fair amount. But at least you can get it. I still like ACA, just wish they'd be more cooperative/communicative with some stuff.

Several ACA folks are very active on the Facebook group (Citabria-Decathlon-Scout ~ Pilots-Owners-Enthusiasts). Dale Gauger in particular seems to be quite responsive. You might try there?

My plane is a bit of an "orphan" being a '65 Champion 7ECA with three key differences from the current ACA-built 7ECA. It has a Continental O-200 engine, an different prop than they use on their Lycoming O-235 version, and it has the "no-bounce" oleo landing gear, which is even slightly different from the older no-bounce gear on the Champs. Still, I get a lot more help from the Facebook group than I have from the Bellanca-Champion type club. Their forum is pretty dead - maybe 2-3 posts per week on the Champion sub-forum. (The Bellanca forum is more active, but it's all about the Vikings, Cruiseairs, and Cruisemasters.) I keep renewing my membership there because they seem to be the only ones who have the manuals, etc. for these older planes, and because every once in a while I spot a "gem" in one of the discussions.

Awesome. I'll check it out. Thanks.
As far a the C180 club goes, I've never signed up. But I have found all the information ive needed regarding the type right here on BCP.

Sorry to the OP for my thread drift.

They hold a cowl louver STC, sell it for $5.
They also sell a member-owned cowl louver STC for $50.
They have STC lists for bot the 180 & the 185: $8 each.
They sell copies of approved 337's for various mods for $2 each,
and a copy of the "850x6 4 ply approval letter" for $1.

Years ago, I believe they used to have a 180/185 Club discount insurance plan through Bill White,
and also offer several discount packages for popular mods from various vendors (BAS, Dodge, etc)--
no more of either one of those as near as I could ascertain.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!

Re: C180/185 club?

Not a huge poster here or anywhere. I do use the searches. I have bought BCP merchandise to help support. I just remembered to jump on and make a offering with Paypay for Zane. I am a member of the 180/185 club. I lost my Cub and 182 in a flood in April. I joined the club as a non plane owner. I quickly found downloaded and printed the club manual. I would study and read every night.

Once I finely found my 180 and quickly made not flyable doing upgrades. I found Selkirk and Bass both gave me real nice discounts that more than paid for the membership. I plan on the cowl vents in the future. I did renew my membership.

I have a April spot in Polson, MT for some sweet mods with Willy at Stene. No way I have the time. A flying plane is what I want.

Re: C180/185 club?

About those rowdies over at the Cessna 180/185 Club.....hmmmm....should you join up? Depends.....but if you are looking for a Cessna 180/185 for purchase, then be aware that the best ones sell between the members of this club and THEIR friends, not to the uninformed public "on the prowl" with "cash in hand", including cult dealers. Those beat up 180s you see on the websites for sale? That owner either died, lost his medical, or his estate is selling it, or he bought a 185 and "moved up" to the world of factory extended baggage and long range fuel. Maybe the owner likes upgrading to the float kit for a couple extra plates and rivet lines to keep his Wichita Chariot in one piece in turbis over Albuquerque @ 15,000 where the wind sheers have spit out a Cessna 210 and a B52 in pieces in the past.
But wait, you don't get that discussion here. You get it when you attend the Skywagon get togethers with the "old guys", you know, the ones with 5-10,000 hours in their Skywagons? You know, the ones that have had 3 engine outs during their ownership and landed on beaches in Mexico, or Interstates outside Helena,MT, or even landed on rice paddy service roads outside Sacramento in IFR after engine outs?? And they love to share their experiences over a campfire or even a margarita in a highrise. They all just love to share.
Then they get old, they can't see shit, and their kids don't fly, and they need to sell. You want to be there then, preferably before then. You stay in touch, you tell them "if you ever want to sell"...
That is what you get over on the Skywagon Club, and what you get when you attend their fly ins. That is lie the BCP group. Information, comradery, and learning about general aviation and emergencies in Cessna singles and other planes. Ok, maybe some arrogance and bullshit, too, but that is true of any group. You should see my gun club on big bore day !!
exVxclimber is on this site because I like the rebuilds, the talent I have seen for making these birds from Cessna better. I don't fly any more, and don't own a plane any more. I'm done after several 1000 hrs of Skywagons, and I escaped alive with a lot of acquaintances and memories and that is good enough for me. The Cessna 180/185 Club was an excellent tool for learning about the plane, my own complete lack of talent for flying, and was totally entertaining. And I owned some pretty good examples of these mighty taildraggers. My last one came from knowing someone in the Club. The other one was tits up in a canyon after a bad decision in a downdraft while looking for fish last time I saw it.
Someday ask Colorado Red in Frisco, CO, about his throttle body arm coming apart over Helena. You will personally attend your own pre buy and EVERY annual thereafter, trust me. And that is the second message from exVxclimber. And join the RAF NOW!!
