C182-800x6-600x6

I am attempting to gather information on converting my 1973 C-182 to 8x6 mains and 600x6 nosewheel-I am planning on using the landis front fork due to the difficulties in finding a HD cessna fork-my question is what do I look for to use as the front 6 wheel and will i have to do any changes to the mains other than mounting the 800's :?:

It is my understanding that the Landis STC calls for an 8.50 up front and the same on the mains. Have to change your main wheels for 8.50 and cus of change in overall diameter it would be a good idea to get couble puc breaks.

I also belief that to have somthing other than the 8.50 on the mains you have to use the Bushwheels on the mains and the Landis up front. Look in the links section of this site and give AK Bushweels a call.

I use the 6.00 up front and 7.00 on the mains in a 182B and I ythink it is just right.

The 8.50 is still a 6 inch wheel so no changes there. You will most likely need the heavy duty hardware for the mains.

You need larger rims on the mains or the tire rubs the brakes.

Tim--

The BRAKE DISK is realy what you need to change, Deeper disk and torque plate but by the time you do that you might as well buy the kit and do it right.

Me too, same set up. Double puck brakes would be nice. Takes me everywhere I've wanted to go.

The fork I used was from a 411 Cessna. I still have enough room for a 7.00 if I needed to.

Robert "Bub" Wright, aka Skylane, passed away in November of 2011. He was a beloved community member and will be missed.

I think my fork is off a later T-41. It came with 7.00 on it but there was maybe enough room to slip a piece of balona between the fork and the tire. Thought that a bit close so I went with a 6.00

I thought the Landes STC allowed for UP TO 8.50's nose and mains. I've certainly seen a few of them around with a 7.00 nose and 8.50 mains, but don't know if that's a legal installation.

There's a 1/8" spacer available that goes between the brake disk and wheel assembly to give you more clearance between tire and brake with fatter tires. It's a pretty standard item for guys running bushwheels here, but I don't remember who makes them, I think it's either Landes/airglas or Bushwheels?

Isn't the cessna heavy duty fork for the 150 through 182 just a standard 206/207 nose fork and wheel? I'll have to check my parts manual tonight and cross reference the number.

Bigger isn't alway better

Years ago, I owned a Skylane 182 with the Landis STC, 8:50's on all three. While it was "Bushy looking," I never took it anywhere but charted airstrips. It steered hard and to be truthful, the 8:50's were not much of an advantage. If I were to land at soft fields regularly, I might go 8:00 mains and a 6:00 nose. I've landed my current Skylane with 6:00 mains and 5:00 nose at many strips and roads without any problems. If I had regular missions landing off airport, I would be looking for a real STOL or a helicopter.
