C185 cruise speed w/ bushwheels

Hi- new to the forum. Currently running 8.00's on the 185, and was curious what the loss in cruise speed would be with either 26" or 29" bushwheels. Thanks in advance

On the 180 with 29's I lost maybe 5-8kts, but then again, who is in a hurry with Bushwheels??? :D

Go get them...yesterday~!

I, too, run 800's on my 185 but I was wondering how much speed I could pick up if I ran 600's?? :)

I lost 7 to 8knots going from 8.50's to 29's on two 185's. Adds up burning 15+ gph. Fun factor is out of this world.

Re: C185 cruise speed w/ bushwheels

Cruise on mine with 29" bushwheels 128 knots
With Schnieder wheel penetration skis 120 knots
With 8-50's 135 knots
At 24 squared 14.4 gph
Better get some......

Re: C185 cruise speed w/ bushwheels

The fact that the new fat tailwheel is in route is what started this whole exercise ..

Re: C185 cruise speed w/ bushwheels

Plan on 6 to 9 kts for 29's but they sure are nice :D if you get a ABW fat tire be ready for some
shimmy like you have never seen when on asphalt and have a crosswind. You will think the tail
is going to come off. On dirt/gravel/grass no problem and very nice to have. just my 2 cents
I never could get mine to NOT shimmy on asphalt with a load in the back or crosswind.

Re: C185 cruise speed w/ bushwheels

My 180 with 0-520, 3 blade 86" prop, 29" Bushwheels, and 14" XP tailwheel cruises at 150-155 mph at 24sq or 24"/2450 depending on the load. Big tailwheels will make more impact on speed than the mains from my experience. With proper tailwheel setup and correct steering cable tensions there should be no shimmy problem.
