I'm not one to complain about protecting our pres or complying with rules established to accomplish that. In fact, that's why I'm sitting on the ground, typing this, waiting for the California TFR's to clear. But, I am still allowed to wonder if our methods are optimal. That's a pretty big footprint. Now I'm afraid the President has the impression that general aviation in the USA no longer exists. He hasn't seen a small airplane in 5 years while he travels around, embedded like a plum in the middle of his 10,000 cubic mile pudding of personal aerial privacy.
If all this is only to protect the president and his small party, maybe there is a better way. We have several decomissioned nuclear containment buildings sitting around. They are so strong, it is not economically attractive to destroy them. We could mobilize these buildings and use them like Pope-mobiles on steroids. He can then do his thing while we do ours.
