CA and NV TFRs on Monday and Tuesday, 10/2-10/3

Looks like the President is coming to Reno, Stockton and Cameron Park next Monday and Tuesday. Massive TFRs. Aeroplanner has them plotted on VFR sectionals. Be sure to keep your Wings of Terror away from these areas!

Also in Arizona Tuesday and Wednesday. I'm gonna have to deal with the thirty mile zone on my return from Idaho Tuesday. The ten mile exclusion zone is only a couple of miles from my home field.

A friend from Shelton with a 185 on straight floats flies to his sawmill in Tacoma on the Hylebos waterway almost every day in the summer months. Cheney had landed at McChord and thus a TFR. Chuck did not check or even consider such an event until he had two F-18's attempt to escort him back to land at McChord. He explained that if he landed at McChord, there would be so much debris from the floats that they couldn't land...he was going on to his destination at Lake Isabel. It turned out to be costly for the legal fees. He still has his plane and is still flying, that says something.

No complaints from me, Lance. It's a very minor inconvienience. Just gotta file and have flight following into DVT. If the ten mile zone covered the airport I'd have just delayed a day. These stump stops by the Prez are almost always less than twenty four hours.

These restrictions would have happened no matter who was in the oval office on 9/11, and the Secret Service is very serious about protecting the President...as you said, they could've been much worse.

Blame the Islamic Militants that used our airliners as weapons on 9/11.

Here is the graphic for the TFR affecting our area 18:50 oct. 2 - 13:00 oct. 3 (local time).

I'm not one to complain about protecting our pres or complying with rules established to accomplish that. In fact, that's why I'm sitting on the ground, typing this, waiting for the California TFR's to clear. But, I am still allowed to wonder if our methods are optimal. That's a pretty big footprint. Now I'm afraid the President has the impression that general aviation in the USA no longer exists. He hasn't seen a small airplane in 5 years while he travels around, embedded like a plum in the middle of his 10,000 cubic mile pudding of personal aerial privacy.

If all this is only to protect the president and his small party, maybe there is a better way. We have several decomissioned nuclear containment buildings sitting around. They are so strong, it is not economically attractive to destroy them. We could mobilize these buildings and use them like Pope-mobiles on steroids. He can then do his thing while we do ours.

Just be glad your TFR's are temporary! My home base is on the fringe of the D.C. FRZ. in the middle of the A.D.I.Z. The days of jumping in the plane after work and putting around are over. Forgetting to file a flight plan in this area is definately the quickest way to practice your formation flying skills. Not to mention No Stock Cubs allowed in here! :x
