I know Oregon and Washington have some nice beaches suitable for landings.... how about California? Any beach airports / nice beaches to land on -- particularly interested in the area North of San Francisco....

Can't answer your question directly, but be careful. California State Parks have a 1000ft. minimum altitude unless taking off or landing. No buzzing the beach even if you meet the FAA criteria for keeping clear of people places and things.

I am only aware of 1 OCEAN beach that is legal to land on in the lower 48. Copalis, Washington. I'm not saying it doesn't happen though.

I was thinking the same. I almost went up to Oceano when I was down in L.A.. But naturally, I wanted to see about landing on Pismo Beach for fun. But I guess it's a State Park and would be a big no no. But hey, there's all kinds of off road vehicles utilizing the beach and sand dunes. Why not an airplane?

Oceano/Pismo Beach is where I grew up. The only part of that beach i would even consider landing on is between the Oceano and Grover Beach on ramps. South of the creek is soft and north is the most crowded with vehicles and kids, it would also mean overflying the city of Pismo Beach. Or at least be close enough to scare the little old ladies. Even so, the Oceano-Grover stretch gets crowded especially on holiday weekends. I don't know if there are limits now, when I was a kid they would claim 200,000 people camping on the entire 13 miles of beach on big weekends.That is the State Park I was thinking of in my previous post. The good news is the "complainer" has to be able to read the "complainee's" registration with the naked eye before the State Park police will do anything about it.

About 10 years ago I landed my C170 at Dumont Dunes north of Baker Ca. That's a State Park. Park ranger came up to me and chatted for a while, I had made a couple of low passes to check out the area I intended (did land). He said there was some people (don't know how many) questioned whether I could land there. He said I did everything good, have a good time, be careful and see you later. I went up to Pismo Beach landed at Oceano A/P and walked over to the beach, didn't but should have asked there position on aircraft but the beach and A/P is so close together.
