Call to Action - UT Airstrip Comment Period

The Utah Back Country Pilots Association is in need of your help! There is only two days left to comment on some of our favorite airstrips being included in the San Rafael Swell Management Plan. Airstrips like Mexican Mountain and Hidden Splendor are included in this area. If you click the link below we've made some suggestions on how to formulate your comments and included the links to submit them as well. All comments must be submitted by March 3rd so please don't let time go to waste! If you have any questions feel free to contact me @ the UBCP hotline 385-220-5313.

Thanks for your support!

Comments made and submitted, real comments, not anything that may sound like a form letter.

Thanks Matt! How have you been? Haven’t heard or seen any thing from you in a long time. How is the family? How old is Luke now?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. This is the short note I submitted to express my support of the cause.

Greetings,

My name is Rich Wellner and I'm a pilot and user of the BLM strips in Utah (and elsewhere). I have been told that there is currently a planning process taking place to evaluate back country airstrips and plan for the future.

I am also a member of an informal group we call "heavier out" which takes it upon ourselves to leave the back country better than we found it by bringing extra garbage bags with us when we use back country strips, gather garbage that other (in my experience, principally non-aviation) users have left behind and carry it out with us.

These strips are a valuable resource for recreational, safety and fire fighting usage and I hope I can encourage you to continue to maintain the existing strips and, over time, add additional ones to replace those lost over the years.

Thank you for your consideration of my input and hopefully I'll cross paths with some of you someday in the back country.

I added my comments. Hopefully, it will make a difference! Those airstrips provide access to folks like me who would otherwise never be able to get there...
