Camano Island Airfield - 13W - Stanwood, WA

N48*15.42' W122*26.21'
North of Langley, East of Port Townsend, North-West of Arlington, and just on the outer circle of Whidbey NAS.

This was my first time to this little airfield. I was attracted by the short runway (1750 is short in the Puget Sound) and ecstatic to find that the northern half of the runway is a hill. Just off the runway is a cliff to the Sound. The northern end of the runway is so green with moss that it's hard to spot. The pavement is rough enough to lend appreciation for good soft-field procedures. Note that both patterns are posted as right-hand, and presumably this is to protect the rich neighbors. It's not supereasy to spot since it looks a lot like a driveway, and being almost under a 1300' floor of class C, watch your altitude.

I found it with winds out of the south, so I landed uphill. The classic carrier approach with shifty winds around the trees made it a fun final. I rolled up the hill, along the flat south portion of the runway, turned around and took off downhill. A teardrop pattern put me right in place to do it over and over again!

A really fun airstrip for people who are bored with flat landing areas!

If you take off north at Camano, just after going out over the bluff look off to your right (east)-- there are two nice grass strips right down at sea level. Don't know anything about them except that the name "Price" was mowed into the grass on the long (eastward) strip a few years ago. Checked airnav.com for info but no luck there. Anybody know anything about them?
