Camping with Boy Scouts

The second weekend in June I am supposed to go camping with some scouts. We want to camp in the high desert in north west Nevada, just east of Cedarvill, CA

Sence two of the scouts are working on the aviation merit badge, I thought it would be cool to fly them over instead of drive for six hours.

Anybody know a place to camp where I could land and of course take off again in that neck of the woods. It would also be necessary to have a place that could be driven to. Just a bit north in Oregon would also work. Denio Junction is too far for those that are driving.

Look at the northern Soldier Meadows airstrip. It's right where you want to be, there's water, and there are roads to it. PM me if you want more information. We were there last year and the runway was in great shape...smoother than some pavement I've landed on.

Thought about soldier Meadow but I think that a bit far. Camping on Cedarville airport would be out cus we want to shoot stuff and do other manly man things.

There is a closed airport just south called Eagleville. What is its condition and what is the bottomline if you land there. With this wet spring, will the dry lakes east of Cedarville be too wet to land on.

jmtgt, we are 4 hrs from Reno, is there anything a couple hrs north of there that would fit the mission. Also, we are about 2.5 hrs away from Lake View, OR. Some good high desert arround there.

Maybe I will have to an air recon prior.

Wish Desert Rat was still posting. He might have a good idea.

Hope to have the big tires on by then. Off airport is ok as long as do not need Bush Wheels.

1A8

Tim:
Empire, 1A8 might work for you. There is a paved road to it. Just a few miles north along the RR road to Trego HS and lots of places to camp, shoot and enjoy around there.

The truth will set you on the path to being free

Zane: Our standard are a bit higher than that.

John: Vya looks pretty good. Lots of long strait dirt roads and did not see any power lines along the road.
