Camping with grandson
Get together with other pilots or enthusiasts. Plan it or get info about it here.
I have a 13 year old grandson that I will be doing some airplane camping with this next weekend. June 8th to 11th. It would be kind of neet to hook up with somebody that will be pretty much doing the same thing. I was looking at Johnson Creek or just about any place. I am not picky. Graham would be good cuz shooting ground squirrels may entertain him
I would go just about anywhere. Well not east of Rockies

Sounds like fun! Only thing better than taking the kids flying is taking the grandkids!!
You don't say where you are originating from. If the Grandson is pretty young, you might want to keep it to pretty short hops. Let us know where you are jumping off from. Would also appreciate pics when you get back.

Leaving from 1O5 Friday morning. He is 13. Probably stay a Johnson Creek and then explore from there.

Johnson Creek is a good choice. Might also consider a flyout breakfast at Sulphur Creek. Horse back riding if your grandson is inclined!! Hope you two have fun!

Just got back. Two nights at Johnson Creek and one night at Garden Valley. We were the only campers at either place. The predicted weather must have scared a few off. On Saturday morning about a half dozen various planes came in and landed then took off immediately.
Tyson and I had a great time. Maybe next year we can organize a Grand kid back country fly in. Would be nice to lower the average age.
We met the latest new caretakers for Johnson Creek. Jim and Wife (forgot name) are great folks. Phil and Roxanne from two plus years ago were there helping to get them all set up and to get the place ready for Super Cubs this weekend.

T: One of the things that I really like about Backcountry flying is that I believe it is bringing young people to general aviation and that is sorely needed!!
Thanks for getting your grandson involved and if you get a chance, bring him to the annual Gila Regional Flyin (Sept 21 thru 23). There is usually quite a gaggle of the little ones and is a beautiful area to fly in if you haven't been before.
NMPA website has more info:
