Camping Without WiFi

Not that I don't like Johnson Creek or the other three Idaho strips with showers and Wi Fi but I was thinking of some camping at less improved Idaho strips. For me what would be ideal is a strip that had some decent shade near the parking area. Also what would be nice is a place to take a quick bath, like a stream within a 1/4 mile. Moose creek is pretty ideal as it has potable water at the ranger station. I do not mind filtering or hauling in some drinking water.

I was thinking of Warm Spring Creek (0U1) or Bruce Meadows (U63). What are the conditions there.

Re: Camping Without WiFi

Warm Springs Creek is great, but usually busy. There's a hand pump spigot in the campground adjacent to the field, and a nice private campsite on the NW side of the strip. Vault toilets as well. Usually some decent gopher holes, mostly to the top end of the strip, but I made a point to walk the field and fill all of them that I saw about 2 months ago. Otherwise it's in great shape.

I've never stayed at Bruce, but flown in a few times. Has awnings and tables, as well as a vault toilet. Unsure about a water source. The south end of Bruce is often soggy and unusable unless you're on big tires, but it's still plenty long without it. Some ruts and bumps towards the top of the strip.

Hope that helps.

EDIT: Missed the part about a stream. Both have streams nearby, but they're both kind of a trek.

If you don't have the Fly Idaho book, get it. The photography and strip descriptions will tell you everything you are asking.

One of my favs is Wilson Bar. Which checks those boxes.

I vote no on Bruce Meadows. It’s a neat spot to visit but I wouldn’t want to camp there and even on a short visit you’re likely to get carried off by mosquitos. It’s pretty though.

Anything with meadow in the name is probably a big no

Back in the mid 90's my smoke jumper friend's girl friend and I flew into Indian Creek and hiked up to and camped over night where Pistol Creek hits the Middle Fork. We found the hot springs up Pistol a ways. I don't remember seeing any other people except maybe the care taker at Pistol Creek airstrip.

That sounds like the beginning of a Penthouse Forum story. [emoji1]

Actually my first trip to Indian Creek in 1987 could have been the Penthouse story. PA12, good looking woman, camping down by the river and no other people-----not even rafters. Ah, two of the best days of my life.
