Can you take an experimental into Mexico now?

According to the EAA
It is not difficult to take an experimental aircraft into Mexico. I was thinking of doing a trip to Baja and discussing it with a friend he said there is a moratorium on flying experimental aircraft into Mexico.

Just wondered who is correct.

Thanks

I would join Baja bush pilots and check out the forums there. You still can’t bring an experimental to Mexico if it has specific language on the airworthiness certificate.

I personally thought that it would have been figured out by now but nothing is quick in Mexico and Baja bush pilots has been working hard to help fix the issue.

Baja is no longer a safe place . I spent years surfing south of Ensenada
I dream of all those nice beaches on a daily basis
But no way I would go anymore

Buddy of mine (well pretty much everybody he knows is his friend) flys down there from Phoenix all the time in the Winter. Anything from an experimental RV to a Carbon Cub to a C185. Super social on FB, I don’t believe he does any of these forums. Text me and I can put you in touch with him. nine oh seven two oh nine oh 5 one 4. The PM function doesn’t work well here with my chosen method of service.

NO you can't legally, they just started enforcing this about a 1.5 years ago . The Baja Bush Pilots and AOPA are working on it - but there was a big change over at the agency that run all things aviation in Mexico so it has not been resolved yet.

Ha - I know him well. He got rid of the RV and I think the Cub, and just picked up a helicopter (its hard to keep track :) - and just got back from a trip down all over Baja in his Skywagon.

And that is hogwash that Baja is not safe (I'm not including the baja/US border towns). There has not been an incident with any of the Bajabush pilots going down there in well over a decade. I've been all over Baja in my 180 and never had an issue, incredibly nice people. I would/have felt safer walking around Baja then (Chicago, LA, NY, etc) . I even flew the 180 to the mainland of Mexico to a small town near Sonora/Sinaloa border (with the guy GBflyer is talking about) and had no troubles, actually was a trip of a lifetime.

If you are serious about flying to Mexico - join Baja Bush Pilots. Lots of great information and trip reports from people actually flying Baja.

I have a friend riding through baja on motorcycles right now as we speak. I don't think there's any safety issues to be concerned about.

Re: Can you take an experimental into Mexico now?

Thank you all for taking the time to respond to my question sorry for the delay in getting back to the forum I thought I clicked follow this thread but maybe not

What is the wording on the airworthiness certificate that would be ok vs. what would not be ok?

I have a stretched pacer that was built in 1990. It was a Blanton style conversion that I am converting to an IO 360 turbo out of a PA 23

I will join Baja bush pilots and see what they have to say if they and the Mexican government have come to any sort of agreement.

I have heard of safety concerns and have also heard of wonderful times people have had there.

If it does work out that I am able to go I would want to go with a group Preferably with someone who has been there before so I see all the cool sites and increase safety

Thank you all again for taking your time to respond
