This is going to be my first true "back country" fly-in, at a completely uncharted airport, no less (it's not even on Shortfield.com). Unfortunately, I have concerns about the "soft" runway and its altitude. A week ago I visited Taos, which is at about the same altitude, and the takeoff performance was underwhelming at about 9 a.m. (some +23..25C). I only have 56 hp. I suppose if I get the tail up early, the rest is going to be easy, but still...

How long is the runway? There is no mention of that in the description.

Runway 8-26 length is 3800 ft or so. Owners asked not to use the other runway.

See:
http://airportnavfinder.com/airport/NM36/

I'm going to talk to Clay and/or Larry when I do RSVP next week and discuss the condition and length. When I get there, I'll make a pass and decide if I land.

Looks like I'm making too much fuss out of this, but it's my first time there, so please pardon little excitement.

BTW, I fly Carlson Sport Special with HKS-700E. Tires are 15x6.00 :-)

The beauty of the high desert can lure a pilot into an extremely high Density Altitude situation. I study, correlate, and estimate performance numbers carefully and add large margins for safety. Also, the mixing of air masses in your area (tornado alley) has scared me a few times!

I love New Mexico! Have a safe flight. Keep your SA (situational awareness)!

Unfortunately, event is cancelled due to muddy runway condition. Larry.F of NMPA posted an official notice to association's forums.

I'm going to Clovis, they have a fly-in at the same day.
