Carbon gear fairing

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

Carbon gear fairing

So, one of my gear leg fairings in my 182R had to many repairs and decided to make my own, now Im looking into how to get it installed legally.
This is my first time at Carbon fiber and I believe part came up pretty nice and sturdy.
Part consists of 3 layers of carbon and 1 layer of kevlar.
What do you guys think??

Re: Carbon gear fairing

Nice work. I've wanted to get into making some carbon parts too. Can't help you with the legality part unless (at least in the eyes of the US FAA) you can claim it as an owner produced part if they are in limited supply.

Re: Carbon gear fairing

Looks great!

The “owner produced part” regulation should allow for the replacement of the factory fairing.

I also think that many IAs would view it as a minor alteration.

Does it have to be in limited supply to justify owner produced?

I'd paint that, install it, and go fly. No one will ever know unless you brag about it.

I thought that was part of the reasoning behind the rule, but I don't know shit and I know you do. Plus you don't ever ask a cheeky question like that without actually knowing the answer, so which is it?

Re: Carbon gear fairing

No, it doesn't have to be in limited supply.

But there are other rules for owner products parts which are far more burdensome. Just duplicating a part isn't enough to be legal.

As usual, the paper trail of what was built is just as important as the actual part that was manufactured.
