Cargo tie down

My 182 has several 1/4 28 tapped bosses (heavy nut plates) in the flore for tie downs. Where can I get the tie down rings.

Re: Cargo tie down

I don,t want to bolt stuff to the floor. I want to use what is already in the plane so I need some devices that will go into the existing 1/4 28 tapping in the floor.

I use something similar to these to attach to the nutplate-backed rear seat attach holes (my rear seat is out.) Combine with a short AN4 and you're in business.

Re: Cargo tie down

Go to the local Ace Airmotive and buy the desired number of welded steel rings, and a matching number of heavy-duty adel-style clamps. Then just bolt 'em in place and tie down to your heart's content.

Check out http://www.cargosystems.com/46dapmf.htm#anchor for tiedown points. and http://www.cargosystems.com/store/produ ... t=0&page=1 I've got a place in Kingman that makes the nets --- Net runs about $50 bucks and ties into anchor points.

There's a good reason why the Navy stuck him on a submarine...

Is that what they mean by the phrase being "Stuck where the sun don't shine." 8)

Tim, if you'd just fly in a little bit better weather, you wouldn't have to tie everything down so damn tight... :P

Re: Cargo tie down

Cargo tiedown fittings are hard to find for 10-32 threads. I posted some rings in my 170 project thread using an adel clamp and a 1 inch steel ring. While it's better than nothing I'm not sure how strong that adel clamp really is. I searched all over the internet for other options with no luck. I had an idea to use an AN42 eyebolt which has 10-32 threads and a 3/16" hole, then put a 3/16" anchor shackle through the hole for a tiedown ring. I got the eye bolts from Aircraft Spruce today and made a couple tiedown fittings. I had to slightly enlarge the hole on the eyebolt to make clearance for the shackle since they are both 3/16". Overall I'm pretty happy with it and I think it should be stronger than the adel clamp tiedown ring.

Adel clamp, 1" steel ring, and 10-32 screw

For the 1/4-28 threaded holes I have, I plan on using some of these.

Re: Cargo tie down

I used the cargo tie down rings from an SUV. Picked 6 of them up for $5 at the auto wreckers and just bolted them in using the original Cessna bolts.

"Every thing you wanted to know about Adel Clamps but were afraid to ask". It doesn't mention strength but does show how to tell what material the various numbers are made of.

Re: Cargo tie down

I think that's a good solution, Rob. Another option would be to use a climbing bolt hanger. Which is a steel sheet metal ear that's bent to a 90 deg, made for clipping carabiners to. Doesn't store quite as low profile though.

I found web site for cargo nets. Http: westcoastnetting. Com that makes the cargo nets - about 30 bucks . use attachment points cargo systems to tie into your airframe . I've been using mine for last 5 years - holding stuff in back .

I just got these in from ebay, they are built well and will work fine for holding my cargo in place.

1/4 28 threads fit into cargo nut plates already there.

About $6 each. Better than $75 each.
