carrying your A&P license

I got into a debate with a FED today and am trying to find the FAR to back me up. The FED asked me for my A&P license, and I told him I didn't have it on me because I am currently operating remotely (currently away from my home airport for the week). Now I am under the impression that you may leave your A&P certificate at your home base, and don't need to carry it with you in order to exercise the privileges of your certificate. Does anyone know where the FAR is to support this?

Re: carrying your A&P license

FAR 65.89

Each person who holds a mechanic certificate shall keep it within the immediate area where he normally exercises the privileges of the certificate and shall present it for inspection upon the request of the Administrator or an authorized representative of the National Transportation Safety Board, or of any Federal, State, or local law enforcement officer.

Interpret as you will

I would and do interpret that to mean that it should be in your wallet if you are working remotely. Whats the big deal? It's not like it is a framed picture you need to tote along, it's just a card.
I often work away from home. Sometimes 100 yards, sometimes 20 miles, sometimes 2500 miles. Always bring my license.
