Catto props-the best
Avionics, airplane covers, tires, handheld radios, GPS receivers, wireless Wx uplink...any product related to backcountry aircraft and flying.
Just wanted to report a company going above and beyond.
My carbon cub came with a Catto prop. It was a nice prop but being composite it didn't handle the abuse i like to put it through as a weed wacker/ mud deflector very well and was in pretty bad shape after a year. I called Catto and asked if there was any cure he said in the short run to fix it with JB weld but they where working on a better fix and to call back in a couple months. So i did and he told me the had a new nickle steel leading edge that they could install. Long story short i sent it in they rebalaced it installed the new edge and gave it a custom paint job for free i only paid shipping. I have to say the new edge is amazing, it can mow down small saplings and not even leave a mark plus it just looks cool. This on a prop that only costs $2300 to begin with. Anyway i find it hard to imagine a better company to buy from if you need a prop. Not to mention the preformance is great. Out climb a borer, way lighter, cruises faster and now with the new edge its tougher too. whats not to like.

Hey Blu
Thanks for the report. I have the Catto prop on my list for the Highlander. I have only heard good things about them and I appreciate your opinion.
Where you been wacking weeds lately.

You're never too old to learn something stupid.
From what I've seen so far, they are a fantastic prop and company!

I agree. I had a Catto prop on my RV-4. It was a work of art. I picked it up from his home and I can tell you he is a great guy in person too. He is a father and has life to deal with now and then so he can be slow to answer his emails, but he is honest and will deliver what he promised.

Craig Catto and I go back 20+ years. He built several propellers for my F-1 effort. Good guy, good to deal with, good propellers, and good value. He also has a tremendous body of experience and knowledge having done a lot of experimental and prototype work.

.
And going back even further, like 30+ years, he was a name in the early ultralight aircraft movement. Not in props back then, if memory serves me right something called the "Catto Flyer". Even further then that backwards, he was an early hang glider pilot, as were most of the early ultralight pilots.

Anyone have any reports on these on floats/water? Curious how they hold up.

I don't have anything written in front of me yet, but I do know we have a customer that is on floats with a Catto prop and loves it. He's even won some award for takeoff performance with his set up. I'll keep this in mind and see what I can dig up at the office to support it.

I don't know anything about floats but if the wear is on the leading edge of the prop blade i bet it would last really well. If it wears in the middle then i suppose it would be like any other composite. The nickel steel is way harder than any other prop material i'm aware of.

Floatplane props tend to wear at their tips when they pick up water during taxiing with too much power.
