Re: Caveman Fly In 2012

Well, the forecast for our route tomorrow hasn't improved by my staring at it all day, so it's time to call it. We're unfortunately out for this fly in.

Hopefully, we'll make an extra Idaho trip this summer instead, and make Caveman next year. Have fun at and around Caveman, and take lots of pictures!

A special thanks to those who graciously offered to put us up along the way! =D>

For those driving in, the gate to the ranch will be open. Drive about a mile past the end of the blacktop and take the next left. If you get to the railroad track, you went too far. Turn around and take your first right.

Re: Caveman Fly In 2012

Weather is looking like there might be a window for me to get over on Friday morning. My plan is to fly to either Grand Junction or Mack Mesa Friday morning, arrive by 10AM and go visit friends who are in Fruita for the 18 Hours of Fruita mountain bike race. I'm hoping to hang out for the 4-6 dinner festivities with the Mack Mesa crowd - then fly over to Canyonlands and tie down and hopefully [-o< convince someone heading over that way to ferry me and my gear the final leg over to Caveman. I don't know if it will help, but I'll have a decent bottle of scotch and a few cigars to bribe people for rides over the weekend. If the weather is shiite - I'm driving.

I hope that's a reasonable plan. I'm unfamiliar with Mack Mesa - but it's asphalt so my flight club insurance company won't care for my rental. Look for me in N161DC - a Diamond DA 20. If all goes to plan I'll be tied down at Mack most of the day Friday.

HiCountry - you're welcome to carpool with me in my truck if it comes to that. I have tons of room and am going solo (either in the plane or in the truck). But I'm leaving early Friday morning or late Thursday night if I drive.

PM me offline if you want to discuss. I forgot to ask if you had room in your GCBC - I assumed not since you like me need to make it up and over corona pass or are you planning a northern route?

Awesome, this is the beta I got also locally, just was not sure about the gate.

Whats the pricing for the dinner, need to have cash in hand.. Will bring out beer also.

Looking like I will fly over to Mack Mesa tomorrow afternoon for the festivities wx permitting (duh). Not my plane but I get to fly it some.

As to the cost of the dinner. This year is a donation. I suggest $25/person. But, it's up to you.

If you follow the thread, it is 5 posts back. It's a donation. I suggested $25. But, it's up to each what they would like to give.

Well good thing I went out to the hangar tonight to preflight and load the plane. I discovered that I left my master switch on for the past week and a half! #-o. I borrowed a charger from a nice guy here at the airport and hopefully it will be ready to go in the morning.

Awesome weather in the Rockies this morning - I wish I was leaving right now... I hope the winds hold for 1 more day so I can get over Corona Pass with 125 ponies.

I got confused with the Mack BBQ being donation after the $25mention also, yes I am easily confused.
