Caveman Ranch (UT) BCP fly-in video

Here's a video I made of the 2011 Caveman Ranch Fly-in. These things never do justice to the area, but hopefully it'll give those an idea of what it's like being there. That area is just insanely beautiful, and Caveman is a wonderful central location.

(HD 720P for those with fast connection)

I'll break down the landings and takeoffs of the various locations and add the vids to this thread as well.

Cheers,
Matt

We were excited to heli in Silverton — until we saw the bird. Looking like something your stoner uncle built in the garage out of four Meccano sets, a fish tank, and an AMC Pacer, this helicopter seats a pilot plus two only, making it a tricky vehicle, logistics-wise, when your group has 8 people in it. If you want to go up, pull back on the controls. If you want to go down, pull back farther.

Thanks guys!

Rob W - yes the bushwheels make every landing addicting, the possibilities are endless!

Gary - Indeed! Next time I'm getting down there on Weds, weather permitting. 2 days in SE UT isn't enough.

Rob B - I needs some ideas for my rap/dance video. You got any?? :D (phat tirez, rans mans, and the red neck shuffle are already taken...)

Very cool Matt. I really liked the time lapse/sped up clip of Caveman in the morning. Did you just let it record and then speed it up? Was it done with your Drift or another camera?

Re: Caveman Ranch (UT) BCP fly-in video

The Drift HD170 has a time lapse feature on it. You can set it up on a tripod and take a 5MP pic every 3/10/30 seconds (I use 3 sec). I usually let it go for about 15-30 minutes per spot and end up with 300-600 pictures that I then stitch together with video editing software. The HD170 also takes the pics in a standard 4:3 aspect ratio so you also have to re-size them to a 16:9. From there I then use the speed function of the editing software to get the desired finished results. It sounds complicated, but with a little practice and the right tools it's pretty dang easy. The caveman clip is about a 35 min period all in 10 secs, but I think it goes good with the video.

This HD stuff takes some serious hard drive space and a fast computer. I just ended up building a new computer a few weeks ago and it's so much easier to edit vids now.

I'll tell you where. Someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talking about a little place called Caveman.

What are the specs on your new computer and what video editing software you using, I'm getting ready to order parts for a new build.
