I never knew you had so much diverse scenery up there. I use to have family in Patterson and thought it was all just farmland. If you ever find yourself in the Los Angeles area let me know as I would love to have a look at your S6.. I have been lusting over the S20 for some time now...

That scenery is all within 15 miles of my home base out in the valley farmland. It really is a beautiful place to fly here. In the Spring. :)

I'll look you up if I'm ever down there.

I like the "legal grass runway" along with the paved runway at Columbia. Good for fat tires guys!

Gold country! Great place to visit! Sutter was from Burgdorf, Switzerland. My relatives actually knew him. He was on the run because he borrowed to much in town and left to California.

Gold Country is fun to fly around in. The legal grass strips are nice but the illegal ones are so much fun!

Nothing is illegal if nobody cares! Our manager gives the thumbs up for grass ops, ski ops and anything that is reasonably safe. But, I bet somebody could find away to stop us if, they wanted to.

Flying is dangerous. If you think otherwise, you are new at this sport. Mind the gravity not the gap.

I see him every Saturday. Did you buy it?

He had a lot of fun with that plane but frankly, it was faster than he was. :D He's already working on another project.

Addicted,
I am a Patterson native. Who are your relatives that lived here? It is still a relatively small town. I am also a farmer here on west side of the valley. We will fallow about 25% of the farm this summer and rely on groundwater for the rest. We will get by and do what we have to but we do worry about the long term water situation. The demands on the water supply keep growing and there is just no leadership to develop more storage. There will be true hardship for many here this summer.

The family I had were on my Ex Wife's side, but I spent many a holiday there. They were her grandparents. Her Grandmother was named Charlotte Bachleda and at the moment I cant remember her grandfathers name. Her Grandfather passed away and her grandmother moved back to Livermore to be with family and she recently passed away in the last 4 years or so.. Any chance the name rings a bell.. They lived in a tract of homes just past the airport. After exiting the freeway, I remember driving past the airport and turning left on the first main road then shortly thereafter a right turn into the homes.

Sorry to hear about the cutback on your farm. This drought is crazy and I think anyone living in Los Angeles should feel pretty bad about having grass in the front yard.

Best regards,

Marc

Addicted2Climbing's GoPro mount is still working like a charm. Here's a short video from Saturday's flight. Just a quick trip out to Paradise Flat and to check the water levels at San Luis. That's where I spotted the elk.

Hey Scott,
You're flying right by me. Stop in sometime. I have the cropduster strip just north of Newman. Just be aware of the big wires at the south end.
Where was that X'd off strip at. Looks fun!

Scott,
Still enjoying your photography from CA!
Frank did a nice job building the RV. It is fast and fun.
We miss our straight tail 182 though.
Stopped at Turlock for gas a few weeks ago. Frank didn't answer his phone.
Maybe next time.
Keep the posts coming. Cheers, Nick

I actually landed there a couple times back when I had my Champ. I didn't know anyone and didn't have permission so I didn't stick around. (This is California after all. :-) ) One time it was to drop off a guy who used to fly his Grumman Tiger into your strip. A school teacher.

I'll definitely stop in now that I have an invite. That strip is just up in the hills behind Mt. Hamilton. Just south of the San Antone valley.
