Cessna 150 patroller doors?

Have you modified your aircraft? STC? STOL Kit? Major rebuild from just a data plate?

I can put you in touch with him if that's what you have. The earlier-model trapezoidal doors would have to be chopped up structurally to install big enough observation panels to see much through.

Mike Sibley in Kenai AK. Michael DOT Sibley AT bp DOT com
I understand he gets $325 for the patrol door kit & $325 for a skylight kit, but I don't know if he has an STC for the mods. Please post here after you contact him & let us know what you find out.

Re: Cessna 150 patroller doors?

Received the following from Mike Sibley in Alaska:

Hello Rod
I do offer the patroller door kit for the 66 through 83 150/152’s.
I do not have an STC so it will require a 337 field approval. So far we have not had any trouble getting them approved but I would ask your local A&P/IA for their input. With the kit I send very detail instructions and a copy of a previously approved 337 for reference.

Kits include everything needed for 2 doors except sealant.
$345.00 plus shipping.
Mike

His email is: [email protected]
He included a photo taken from the inside of a 150, which I can forward to anyone interested, (I haven't graduated to being photo posting able
on this forum yet).
Unfortunately we don't have the option of a 337 field approval in Canada and I will not be able to put them on my 150.

From this, I assume that your airplane is not in the owner maintenance category? What's your opinion of that? I realize there's a lot of ramifications but I would be pretty interested in doing it if it were an option down here.

Re: Cessna 150 patroller doors?

The owner Maintenance category in Canada is a great idea for some people and for some aircraft types.
For me and my aircraft type (C-150) it is not. It would lessen its value, future buyers would be uncertain of its maintenance history.
If parts availability is a problem or finding a mechanic to work on your a/c type then sure, but once in the new category it becomes prohibitively
expensive, if possible, to ever change it back.
Also it can never be flown across the border into the US as an OM category a/c.

Ha! My onefitty looked that bad when I bought it! Sat outside for many years unflown covered in moss and lichen... There was a lineup of locals watching me takeoff shaking their heads  And 2 years later its going strong and a hoot to fly!

GumpAir wrote:My bifocals were driving me nuts, and still do. But for flying, I had my eye doc build me up a pair set for the exact distance my eyes were from the panel, and then... He used that to fill probably 3/4ths of the lens, so I wasn't tipping my head back. So, far vision is only a real thin strip on the very top of the lens, and the panel focus fills all the rest to the bottom. Works perfect for most airplanes I sit in.
