Cessna 170B Camera Port

Curious if anyone has installed rear windows with the camera port? I'll be replacing rear windows in a 170B soon and was curious if any has any feedback?

Re: Cessna 170B Camera Port

That’s cool!

I’ve had people try to take shots out of my open windows with their phones

“Hang on to your phone with both hands, if it flys out the window it’s not on me, now if as it flys out if it hits the expensive plane that’s going to be on YOU”

So far so good

Wonder if the phone would survive the fall?

Tons of videos of recovered skydive go pros that survive

Re: Cessna 170B Camera Port

I hope that pig enjoys his new phone!

I friend here in BZN has similar ports installed in his 172. I asked him how they were signed off, and he said the A/P signed them off as minors.....

They look pretty handy, actually, assuming you use a "real" camera, as opposed to a phone.

Re: Cessna 170B Camera Port

Thanks for posting the link. I saw the camera port in an AOPA article years back and assumed they were custom-made by the owner. It’s nice to know they’re commercially available.

I’d be interested to learn about how much air leaks from around the perimeter while in flight. And whether they change noise levels.

12 years ago a helicopter crash in Kamiah Idaho was caused by a fish & game biologist losing his clipboard out the window, it got tangled up in the tail rotor.

Re: Cessna 170B Camera Port

I've flown a few pipers that have vent like that beside the pilot. Always seemed like a good idea. Nice to see someone is doing that for Cessnas. Might have to order up a couple center windows with vents for the 206...

Re: Cessna 170B Camera Port

Items leaving the plane or helicopter while in flight are scary dangerous. I have always been taught to "Secure your load". Re: the kamiah crash, NTSB could not determine if clipboard came from within the helicopter, or was left in a side basket at the start of the flight.

"The National Transportation Safety Board determines the probable cause(s) of this accident to be the in-flight impact of a passenger's metal clipboard with the helicopter’s tail rotor, which resulted in destruction of the tail rotor and subsequent loss of control of the helicopter. The original location of the clipboard and how it became free could not be determined."

Re: Cessna 170B Camera Port

Doors off helicopter is a different animal

Pockets empty and cabin secure

If it’s a photo mission they got a next strap or some retention on their equipment or no dice

Re: Cessna 170B Camera Port

Newspaper articles at the time reported the biologist was holding the clipboard and lost it but press reports about airplanes are frequently a joke at best.
