Thanks for the shot. Read the quote. Perhaps I need to clarify for you. I have an airplane with the Sportsman Cuff, just added the WingX, will add Vgs. I am not taking the wing back to stock. I asked if someone was interested in doing a stall test to add that has a stock wing. I'm curious. I'm not trying to build a database across the feet. Not having the data is no big deal and elsewhere in the thread I attempted to clarify that I am not doing this as a comprehensive test program. Just my airplane and my mods.
If you're not interested, great. You do the testing better than what I'm doing and then I'll read your stuff, or not. But thanks for reading and adding to the conversation.
Merry Christmas,

I applaud your attempts to make a scientific before-and-after comparison.
Seems like it would be hard to do out of the laboratory testing, too many variables--
wind, temp, density altitude, and esp pilot technique.
When trying to evaluate mods I've made on my own airplanes,
I rely more just on "feel".
Unscientific, and hard to quantify, but not hard to perceive.

Cessna Skywagon -- accept no substitute!

Sounds like a case for Tinactin.
But a more pronounced phugoid motion is predictable for the Sportsman...the pitching moment vs angle of attack curve is steeper with the modification. All SE Cessnas I've ever flown have noticeable phugoid modes anyway, and the frequency decreases as the CG moves rearward.

Thanks for speed check, I've all but given up trying to argue with it. It's actually getting a little funny. I wrote spell check just now and it corrected me to speed check. The computer knows best.
I'm a newbie with experiencing the mode myself. I'll be interested t see what happens when I do the GW testing.

Works now. I am lucky if I can figure out just how to log on. Looking forward to the VG segment. Great looking plane by the way!

Great video Gunny. Very interesting.
If you want to tweak your setup at all I think the Garmin Virb has an option to display speed over the video. Your commentary covers it, but it would still be interesting.

Thanks guys. I agree a Verb would be cool, but I've spent way too much money on GoPros and not avgas;)
I'm looking forward to the Vgs to!

The VIRB records ground speed, not airspeed. That would be inaccurate for Gunny's purposes unless it was a true zero wind at his flight altitude at the time of testing, and how would you know? I guess we could put up an anemometer in a balloon at the test altitude/location and synch the data, but wow, this is getting complex...
Or, run the course multiple directions and take an average, but still not so accurate.
Anyhow - Gunny, awesome work on getting some data for your plane. Interesting to read through your results. Thanks!

Any updates to this Gunny?
My '63 182 has the Sportsman cuff and Wing-X so I really appreciate your data. I'm particularly curious about the effect of VGs.

Allan-
I've been really busy. Finished a new house, moved, had to swap out the engine on the 180. I hope to get to the Vg's this fall, but it will probably be after the new year.
Thanks for watching.

If you are tempted and must try VG's, tape (2 side tape of sutible quality) em on, fly it for a period of time to seriously evaluate the performance. If you discover you don't like them then just take them off, all you are out is the cost of the kit and labor to instal and uninstall, then you are not stuck with a mod that may actually be detrimental to your airplane. If you like them, remove one at a time and reinstall per the instructions.

I have been tempted to try the Vgs. In fact I bought them at the same time as the WingX, well before the paint. Long story short I just put them on and tested them out. Lots of stuff got in the way, oh well. I think you'll find this interesting.... are Vgs really worth it.
The Sportsman Cuff seems to be the biggest improvement overall from stock. The WingX significantly reduce takeoff roll and improve climb as well as offer a larger GW. All cool. But the cost is a penalty on roll rate and control feel. That long wing is ungainly in winds/landing. Didn't like it much. The Vgs fixed all that by a large margin. Very impressive.

Thanks for the work behind your videos Gunny. Real numbers to see are great.
My plane has a MASA cuff on it and I'll be adding the WingX and VGs.

Thanks AKaviator... it isn't a simple thing to a video like this. But it's cool when people watch it and react positively. I appreciate your words!
