Anyone know where I can find this part for my '55 Cessna 180?

Try Stene Aviation in Polson, MT. They make a lot of those kinds of parts, and good quality stuff.

This ad ran for years in the 180/185 Club newsletters.
No idea if the guy is still around.,
or if he still has those two sets of gear legs seals.

Re: Cessna 180 Gear Leg Cover

Frankly, it wouldnt be that hard to make one from sheet metal, for that matter.

Re: Cessna 180 Gear Leg Cover

Buzz is still around... but he only makes the rubber gasket part - which is frankly the most important. Will Stene makes nice covers but a lot of us just have basic parts cut out of sheet metal.

Re: Cessna 180 Gear Leg Cover

Deputydog,

Care to share what you attaching the jack chain to you the floor jack with on the gear leg?

Thank you. I've been trying to come up with a safer way to jack up my 185. I'm going with a hoist like you have but have not settled on the attachment mechanism.

Thank you

That looks like the high-strength line (amsteel?) that Hammer posted about using several years ago.
I hoist mine in a similar fashion but I use a nylon strap, wrapped around as a "choker" like this photo shows.

I use one of these wrapped around the lower leg and an engine hoist. The amsteel is waaay strong but I can't get past looking at that skinny line holding that much weight

Just visualize it as stainless steel cable, it meets or beats it

Also can always get a thicker line

I went with something a little thicker when I made my pup a leash, just for comfort in my hand

Cool science though, strong as steel but floats

Re: Cessna 180 Gear Leg Cover

I was able to get ahold of Buzz Laundry for the seals.. And I made a pair of the covers so I think I'm set.

Oh and that 180 isn't mine, it was just a picture I found so I could point out the part I was looking for since mine was missing.
